re: LSUS Online MBA Reviews

I chose the Finance concentration. I graduated in Dec 2012 with my Undergrad. I was too burnt out to go right into my Master's. I started this summer and I love it so far. There's an adjustment period of course but you'll get use to it. To echo what has been said, getting some real work experience 1st would be a huge plus. MBA's are great to have; however, most employers want to see that you have work experience. They'll wonder why someone has been in school for 5-8 years without any real experience. Having an MBA alone won't get you a top notch level job but an MBA AND work experience definitely will.

Eh I disagree about getting work experience first. I graduated from LSU BR last May and went straight into the LSUS online program and finished in April. If you are already in "school mode" you can knock it out in 9 months and have more leverage when looking for your next job. You could even see if your current employer will pay for it.

Plus the program is pretty easy. Most professors use test banks and multiple choice tests. The only down side is the plethora of busy work they give you.

Can you and anyone else expound on the "busy work" the professors give out? I'm guessing lots of reading. I'm really looking forward to starting the program in August. But I've never been a fan of "busy work". I'll be getting back into the study mode after take a 16 year "break" to get run a business.

On another note, there doesn't seem to be a way for us to Private Message each other. I'd love to communicate directly with some of you.

Typing and reading, two of my "favorite" pastimes. Gotta suck it up and get it done.

The biggest drawback to me with Online courses is the need for writing. When taking a course on campus, I don't think the professors have so much need to give out as much writing assignments. The live class interaction takes it's place.

If I had the flexibility, I actually prefer on campus classes as I get more out of the interaction. But in our day and age that isn't always practical.

For most classes you have to post a response to a prompt in a discussion forum every week. Usually its 500-1000 words which isn't terrible. Then you have to respond to other people's responses in the same format. I cannot remember what marketing class it was but we had to do three 15 page case studies that was essentially all busy work and answering the same questions in 10 different ways until you get to your page limit.

For the tests there was a lot of reading involved but as I said before the test bank is your friend. If you don't know what those are, text book companies will offer teachers sample test questions when they use their books. A lot of time the professors will either add a few to their own tests, or pull 50 questions from the bank and give it as their own test. Certain websites will buy the book then sell the test bank questions. Some people are very against using them but IMO if a teacher is too lazy to make their own test questions then I don't feel bad about only studying the bank.

I will say that I have a skewed view of the program because it was basically a review of everything I learned in my undergraduate studies (Business Management). When you are in school for 18 years straight, you are just ready for it to be over. I have always seen school as a means to an end and did what I had to do to get an A but nothing more. A lot has changed in the business world in 16 years so I am sure you will get more out of it than I did. Best of luck to you!

I too am in the program and have taken BADM 700 and BADM 701. I'm currently taking FIN 730 and am getting ready to start my core classes this fall (general business concentration).

I was curious if the people who have already taken this program could rank the core classes from easiest to hardest, in their personal opinion. I'm trying to finish in a year and am wondering which classes I could double up on in a 7 week session.
