best value.

On the usage
I buy gas, and eat out (a frick ton) . Like every meal

On the reaping rewards end:
I travel a bit, and buy shite for myself a good bit like golf clubs, shotguns, and shite.

Chase Saphire Preferred gives 2x Dining and seems to be Money Board approved as a solid deal

Sams Club Credit Card is easily best money back card

5% Gas, 3% Dining/Travel

Finding a good mix of cards is the most important if you aren't getting into the signup game. Try to find cards that give you extra for most of your purchase categories.

I would do the CSP and Chase Freedom combo.
-CSP gives you 2x on dining and travel
-Freedom has rotating categories by quarter for 5% cash back - 2 quarters of gas and one for dining

Plus you have the option of cashback or travel. Travel gives you a 20% bonus.

Also you'll get $500 just for signing up for both of them and meeting the minimum spending requirements - and can combine the points with one another.

Forgot all about this card Made my Dad get it last fall to use as his primary card. Only downside is the $6k cap on gas. But everything has those caps now

Any reason why you prefer Freedom to Discover? I legit can't find any differences. With Discover though, I get discounted rewards through partners and solid Shop Discover benefits for increased Cashback

Does Freedom offer that too?

How much does your mom/dad drive? If you bundle this with a Discover/ChaseFreedom then you almost for sure won't come close

I've been thinking of adding Sam's club to make my rotation

-Amex Bluecash - Grocery
-Discover - Rotating rewards + shop discover
-Sams Club Mastercard- Dining/Travel/Gas (commute 80mi/day)

-Citi DoubleCash - For all other purchases

2 main reason

Combine them with the CSP points and visa is much more accepted than discover

I regularly use my Discover and have only been denied 1 place in past ~2 years. I don't have CSP though so that isn't valubale to me

I love my discover card but I figured I could love the Freedom too. Just seemed like identical cards minus the name.

they are - combining the points from freedom to csp is huge for travel

I never do the cashback options

I never do for Discover. Going on a Cruise in November with fiance and getting $2:$1 in rewards. Makes "trashy" decisions easy to make. Also, I get 20% off GCs for most retailers I shop with. Works out great

I rarely travel excep to visit my folks. Just isn't worth it for me

I run everything through my DL Amex - I mean everything

I only fly enough to hit DL Gold so I puts me into Platinum by doing this and allows me to roll over a good chunk

I am not in a typical situation. I could get better "value" by spending on different cards in different categories but I prioritize my status over that

So the concensus seems to be Chase Saphire Preferred or Discover IT card? (I know about the Penn one just for gas) Are there any others I'm forgetting about that come highly recommended?

If you want travel rewards(usually much bigger bang for buck than cash back) CSP/Freedom is your answer. Game over...You want to dig deeper after you get those, jump in the big CC thread.

CSP vs Freedom

Is the difference in how one gets points or what those points can be spent on?

If you are getting a gas card, Sams club gas card > PenFed for most people

Both - but you can combine the points which is why it's better to have both

So I get 5000 bonus points after first authorized user? Is that me or do I need to add someone, then deactivate them later?

Also: Should I route my mortgage payments through the card, then pay down the card immediately with renter income?

Yes - Add your brother and just keep the card

Yes- if you're willing to do that mortgages are generally tricky to pay with a CC

Teddy is the expert on that - I defer to him

With regards to CSP, they are also 1:1 transfer partners with United. I've seen United miles valued from 1.5 to 2 cents per point.
