LOL Chase Bank

Mom has an account at Chase. I owed her some money so she asked me to make a deposit into her account. $100 bucks. So thinking it would be easy, I got $100 cash, she gave me her account number, and I went to Chase.
1) The branch I went to (Veterans near Bonnabel) does not allow individual account holders to use the drive-thru. Only business accounts can use the drive-thru, but there is an ATM that individuals can use.
2) I park and go inside and fill out a deposit slip. There are two huge machines in front of the teller desk, along with one teller. I go up to the teller. To make a long story short, Chase requires a photo ID to make a cash deposit, and will not make a cash deposit to an account if the person (i.e. me) isn't listed on the account
They would not take cash!! But they would take a personal check from me, or they could take a cash advance against my debit or credit card.
When I asked why in the world I could not deposit CASH but they would accept a personal check, they said it's because they find that cash deposits into accounts in other names is a method used for drug money and money laundering.
So there you go. You druggies and smugglers stick to Chase and I'll stick to my good local bank!

It makes perfect sense, unfortunately you're one of those backwards arse people that berated the poor teller because you don't agree with bank policy.
You could have just venmoed her the money or written a check.

I guess they could have changed the corporate policy for you.... I mean, it was $100.

Chase is really the worst of all big banks

I had this problem with Chase last year after moving out of Baton Rouge. I find it to be quite ridiculous, and my other banks don't take issue with someone else depositing cash into my account.
I understand the drug money thing... but there are so many other ways people use cash, it seems odd they would make it less convenient to bank with them. And I haven't heard of many other banks following suit (correct me if I'm wrong)... I'm not their biggest fan but I don't really have many issues with them and I like their other app features.
Chase QuickPay is what I would suggest for you next time you're trying to send money to your mom.

Why don't you give your mom a little money so she can be a private client or private bank client and they'll do just about anything you want.

LOL. I'm not expecting them to make an exception... I'm curious as to why they have such an anti-customer policy.
It's insane. My guess is the real reason is because they have so few actual humans, they don't want to deal with any more cash touching a person than they have to. Given all the machines in the bank.

I've used Wells Fargo, Capital One, Gulf Coast Bank, and Iberia Bank and none of them ever had this issue.
To me... if you suspect anyone of smuggling money... then don't accept it. But this big business corporate policy, let's not use our brains BS is just confirmation of why I don't use the big banks.

One day, my friend, I hope to have your wealth and be able to do that. One day. #goals

You can thank Obama for all of the new regulations since 2009. I work in Treasury/Finance and the amount of audits and paperwork we have to fill out is ridiculous. It will take us 2-3 months just to set up a new corporate bank account because of all the KYC and QA crap that has to go on. BofA is the worst.

BSA/AML regulations should be ones blamed, not a individual bank simply trying to conform to overbearing regulations

Do those rules only apply to national banks? Or are the smaller banks just ignoring them?

God forbid the banks have any kind of security or procedures.
Install Chase App, log into account. Use App to deposit check for $100.
fricking done.

Their PB Services can be a pain in the arse to deal with at times.

How in the hell does this make a bank more secure?

Read the OP, honcho. I don't have an account at Chase. I'm pretty sure logging into someone else's account via a app is a heck of a bigger security risk for Chase than depositing cash.
Do some of y'all work for Chase? Sheesh.

your mom can make a venmo account through facebook in like 2-3 minutes and you could have given her a quick $100 instantly
