Life Insurance Policy: Tips/Suggestions

Do any of you have any tips/suggestions on obtaining life insurance policies with a lower rate?
I'm a moderate runner. I have ran a couple of half-marathons and 1 marathon. As I've gotten older, I've cut back my running to a couple of miles a day and occasionally partake in a 10k.
I'm not a "smoker", but occasionally enjoy a good cigar. Maybe 2, or 3 a month. I also have a glass of wine or two with meals during the week and on weekends (especially during football season) enjoy some good beer or whiskey. Basically, I consume too much on Fridays and Saturdays.
I've had a DUI arrest some 10 years ago that was completely bogus and thrown out -- (long story short - I was at a crowded bar and needed to make a phone call. I was in the Wrigleyville area and the streets were crowded and far too loud. I hit the button to unlock my car and went to the car to make the phone call. My keys and beer were still in the bar with my friends. The officer believed I was in physical control of the vehicle even though I didn't have keys to crank it -- it was tossed out.) Will the have a negative impact?
Any tips/suggestions? Moderate cardio? Stop drinking/cigar for ____ amt of time before tests? Limit my caffeine intake?
Will my family history (cancer, high blood pressure) effect it? I once had a mild scare of melanoma, but that has been since taken care of.
Thanks

Nothing you mentioned will be an issue. Don't mention cigars, 1 drink/week, don't mention dui, don't mention family history. Done.

And don't die within the contestability period.

This cannot be stressed enough.
Lie moderately.
Never cigars (you'll be rated tobacco by most carriers).

don't mention family history
Most companies will ask this, however, so you may have to answer. If they don't, do not volunteer any information.

Like said above, avoid being too honest. Answer only what is asked. Don't mention the cigar thing as anything but never and ever.
Everyone in your family lives to 100+.
Don't go overboard on the fitness angle, don't mention pick up basketball games, snorkeling, etc. Lots of physical activity is seen as risk.

What if the statement is directly asked:
What the hell do you say? I'm sure they have a way of looking it up, right?
Once a week?
Can they research this or is this a HIPPA violation?
Can't they look for death certificates/family history?

Just remember that a false or misleading statement that, if intentional and material, can allow the insurer to deny the claim and void the policy.
So if you check a box on a form to indicate you have not used any tobacco products in the last 5 years (for example), then you kick of throat cancer and they see in the med records that you smoked cigars, the beneficiary may be out of luck.

Yup, it's a great idea to lie on insurance applications. I'd advocate lying on job applications too.
