Lein on property?

Beginning of Sept 2011 I sold and delivered about $2500 worth of material to Contractor C. Contractor C happens to be based in TX. Job site was in LA.
C hasn't paid for material and has dodged my phone calls since delivery.
I contacted Owner A where the delivery was made (and now the owner of the property, its a retail business) and they referred me to Contractor B (the GC) who built the building for them.
Contractor B also happens to be based in TX, and has gotten Contractor C on the phone with me/him once, and once with his secretary. C said that he was trying to get some money from here or there and committed to paying a 2 weeks ago. Now he's back to dodging both of our calls.
Should I consider a lein on the property? if so, is that a simple matter? or something else?
Contractor B (the GC) has tried to help, but also initially asked me not to contact Owner A again (as not to involve his customer.)
Property is in LA, owner's hq happens to be in yet a third state.

Guys like contractor C are why the construction business is full of liars and thieves. Sucks man.
I'd talk it over with contractor B about it and see if they'll pay it. If not get an attorney.
Who was your contact for the job initially?

Time to pay Contractor C a personal visit. I have had to do this few times and have gotten my money more times than not.

Must file within 30 days from the date of the project's completion, I think.

How much money you out? Is the project completed?
I know you've called them but if they aren't your good clients I'd send the owner and GC an Intent to File a Lien letter first.

About $2500.
Project is completed...
I'm hoping the threat of a lien to the GC/Owner will prompt the GC to pay me, just to protect his goodwill with the Owner.
I'd just like to know what I can really do as I casually mention this threat... you know, like at least be able to use the correct terminology, as I'm sure the GC is more familiar with this kind of stuff than I am.
Intent to File Lien letter, huh?
