Never had jury duty so I don't know how to handle this but I have jury duty on the 27th but I have a business meeting in Boston, MA the next day on the 28th that I have to attend.. What do I do?

Any one here run into this situation? If so, what are my options?

There are exemptions in some cases, being vital to a business may qualify. Is it expected to be a multi day trial, or a bunch of bs small cases?

Never had jury duty. If so I could just say "only God can judge" in order to get out of it

By "jury duty" have you been picked for a trial or just for the jury pool?

In Orleans Parish, if you are just in jury pool this is no big deal. you have all month to sit in the jury pool for your 3 days. Perhaps Texas is similar.

Just don't have what happened to me happen to you. On day 3, I got picked for a murder trial that went on for a full week.

Funny enough, someone said exactly that to get out of it when I was there during jury selection.

I'm a lawyer, so I knew exactly what to say to get off of it without being obvious, but I couldn't do it.

The case didn't involve drugs or the death penalty so it didn't hit any real issues with me.

Tell them you're really good at telling if someone is guilty or not and can tell just by the way they look

Go talk to the clerk and bring copy of reservations and explain it and offer to be available for rescheduling your jury duty as soon as they can.

I live in Texas and that is exactly what I did and was 're-scheduled. Whatever you do, do not blow it off. Was in a jury pool, folks obviously blew it off, judge ticked, issued bench warrants for their arrest.

Thanks everyone. I figured it out. I was able to Reschedule my jury pool date to March. I did it all online. It was amazing to see such a well thought out system..especially from the government...the online system ACTUALLY worked!

That doesn't get you out by itself? I talked to a lawyer once who got called in and nobody wanted him on the jury.

You would think, right? That's what I thought myself.

From what I understand, in Virginia I can't be on a jury by rule.

Louisiana, different story.

Depends on the lawyers working the trial. Some don't care. Others care a lot.

Someone I was in law school with was on the jury for the Hankton trial (can't remember if it was during or after). Said that the attorneys or the other jurors didn't really care about her legal background.

Shiiit, I explained a lot of little things.

Trying to explain the difference between manslaughter and 2nd degree murder is tough though. Thankfully, we only need 10 to agree so I didn't have to start getting really into it to reach the correct verdict.

Knocks on wood
I've never set. But I've had to report many times. In Texas you can reschedule but only once.

Don't do that.

Someone in my jury pool told that to the judge & he told them- "I'm a judge, I don't agree that I'm God, but I do command you to sit in that chair until this jury renders a verdict in this trial."

Walk in, proclaim that all those low-life pieces of shite are guilty and you're here to serve justice.

Now, you may get held in contempt and then have to explain to your associates you missed the meeting because you were in jail....
