Notarizing a document for a non-customer is a great way to open dialogue and entice a potential new customer to do banking with you (especially one interested in a new bank).

Saying “I can’t do that cause you ain’t a customer” while looking down at your instagram, however, is not very effective.

But your new empty building is very nice!

Why go to a bank for notary service? Why not go to a notary?

Do you go to your auto mechanic for donuts?

For free or were you planning to pay? Nobody does shite like this for free to random people off the street anymore.

While your service may have been lacking, notarizing a document for customers is a perk of doing business with some banks. Doing it for non-customers defeats the purpose of the perk.

You’re just looking for free service. You aren’t moving your accounts.

Go to your own bank to get it notarized.

Meh, just charge a nominal fee. Costs nothing, labor is already there. Gain goodwill and a bit of pure profit

Not really - the people that go to a bank where nobody knows them usually have something sketchy they want notarized.

Plus, how much can the bank charge before people complain about that?

You just want something free and convenient. You will not move your relationship whether they do it or not. So go spend $25 at a notary cheapskate

Long time banker here….In theory you’re thought works, but in reality, for every one person that says yeah good idea I’ll open an account, there are 100 that would simply use the service and waste an hour of your employees time.

Plus, 9 out of 10 people that then open account are likely ones that keep $100 in their checking accounts outside of payday. Anybody that keeps healthy balances is very likely to have access to a notary somewhere. Those $100 accounts all lose money for the bank more or less. That whole paragraph is a 10k generalization of course but not far off from reality.
