Division I am in reorged after they fired my director and consolidated teams. Guy they picked to run the consolidate team is a favorite of the our new director. As such I and two other guys were demoted to "individual contributor" instead of manager. If I am interviewing with other companies, how do I explain the demotion?

fricked up thing is that I was told in email from the vp of our division that I was gonna be the consolidated teams manager. All of a sudden new director comes in and puts his guy in charge. /rantoff

Anyways, any advice on getting around the demotion issue in future interviews?

Are they going to call and do a reference check? If not, don't change it seriously.

It they are I'd just be honest and put both jobs on there and the reason for the change.

You just explained it. Tell them the same thing.

I am not even sure other companies would know the difference between "manager and individual contributor" I probably wouldn't even bring it up or change it.

Don't change it. If they ask why you are looking, say that they had massive layoffs and your management responsibility isn't the same.

Go find a new job, and your explanation is fine.

You'll want to loosen his brake lines about 3/4 of a round, not so much that they bleed out in the parking lot and make it obvious.

You're welcome.

Wasn't demoted but was passed over.

Was trapped, no where to go and getting late in my career, and had spent my working life seeking said position. I allowed my hurt and disappointment have its way, refused to compromise my subordinates because of my pain, and allowed it to focus my truer priorities, family first. At that point the enterprise no longer had my heart (which was on me), it was self-instructive and I learned how to be present but distant....detached.

In retrospect, quite the BLESSING
