Do you know of any apartments or any rental properties that have backyards? Even if it was a small yard it would be better than nothing. I have a big ole labrador.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I had a credit card in 2003 for gas that my parents paid for. Other than that I got nothing. I talked to the mortgage guy at my bank and he said it wasn't enough. I had electric, cable, apartment, water, and health club bills in my name but they only report your credit if you DONT pay them.

I find it odd that someone with a couple of credit cards and a car note can get a loan easily, but people like me get rejected for not carrying any debts and paying cash for everything.

It's a case of no information being, well, NO information. That's why everyone should get a credit card (even with a low available limit) at a fairly young age and start building a credit history.

Its the fact that they don't know how you will act once you have credit. I know it seems like an odd example but imagine if you had never drank alcohol before and someone didn't want to give you beer because they thought you might be an alcoholic, just because you have no history with it. Crappy example but its the best i could think of.

Ok, so I took a look at a mortgage calculator just as an example...
Terms:
$250,000
30 year
7% interest rate

Monthly payment: $1663
My take home pay per month will be ~$5000
So my monthly note would be about 33% of my pay

Just to let you know you are probably looking at more like $2100 a month when you add in taxes and insurance.

Just applied for a credit card. I feel like I did when I took my first ever drink of alcohol. A lot of people screw their life up with this stuff but it must be good for something, here goes...
