Can anybody explain to me why home depot stock has gone from 80 to 135 a share in the last two years? Is lowes shiteing the bed or is the DIY'ers really boosting there profits that much?

its just massively overvalued 25x earnings and the dividend is barely 2%. Like every other asset from real estate to stocks, its valuation is frothy to say the least. I really dont think the american economy is as good as all the numbers coming out and we are nearing the end of a 7 year cycle. I personally wouldn't touch home depot up here but who knows, the entire market is irrational these days.

I totally agree. This is a dead cat bounce off the Great Recession. Housing and property have yet to find true values. I suggest buying a home that you could literally live off of if shite hit the fan. Wages are too low and expenses are too high. Prices seem propped up and disguised by low interest rates. As for homedepot, lowes has followed a similar 5 year stock chart pattern.

I'm trying to decide when to sell. I work pt with em and have been putting 20% of my check into their stock purchase plan. Lets my buy at 15% below market every six months with what is held out of the check. Been doing it a couple yrs and have a tidy little sum now. Nothing extravagant, but don't want to lose it in a dip either.

As stated, it's been a good couple of years to be buying HD

Yeah it has been. I think my first purchase was around 67 a share minus 15%. Next purchase will be at the end of June.

My cost basis is around $53 for HD stock. Been one of my best performers.

25x earnings for a mature company like home depot is just ridiculous. Its not a growth stock. Id definitely be a net seller not a net buyer right here. If you want to buy things at such high multiples they better be facebook, amazon, google or some other tech co you believe in not home depot.
