Without knowing anything about your situation I'll say you are getting screwed. I was self employed last year and part of this year. I got on the exchange website and got coverage. They list all the plans and the monthly cost. Start there. I used to have cobra but got better coverage for $300 less per month.
I live in Colorado but am assuming every state has a health care exchange website since obamacare started.

Who are you with / what is your coverage like? Does your coverage change any at your renewal, or just a premium increase? Are you going through the exchange currently?

I found that the exchange doesn't have every plan offered by each insurance company. For example, I found and signed up for a BCBS plan directly from the BCBS website that I wasn't able to find on the exchange. I'm self-employed as well and don't go to the Dr but once or twice a year. The plan I use is a high deductible ($5,500) plan for $155/month. Plus I get 3 free Dr's visits per year which is about all I need.

We're both self employed .. 45 and 46 yo. 3 kids. BCBSLA high ded with HSA. Our premium is almost $800 per month.
Scared to see what's "better" via exchange as I'm afraid of what premiums would do over time.
I should add that they've been great to us ... Over 18 years we've ky met our ded three times and never had an issue. No questions or denials about visits/procedures.
