I do not mean in the sense of just paying bills on time, taking out a credit card, and maybe a small loan.

More so has anyone sent out form letters to dispute items from the three major credit agencies (equifax, experien, and transunion).

From my understanding after you send a "dispute" or form letter to these companies, under I'm assuming a spray-and-pray thought process" they have thirty days to contact who the dispute came from. If they do no hear back from them in thirty days the disputed item is removed? Am I correct in all of this? And has anyone had success with this?

I made some poor decisions in college, not in the sense of any loans, I've never taken out a loan, luckily, but I was consistently late on my Comcast bill, which has really skrewed me. Stupid, I know, but I was immature and an idiot. Appreciate all the help

Could it have done that much damage?

You might be surprised how much you can improve your score by doing the things that you mentioned...

I've just started the process, so I've undertaken everything I can except for actually contacting the credit agencies.

I checked my report one time and saw that I had a credit card where the limit was reported as $1 instead of $17000. So my utilization ratio was ridiculously high.

I wrote a letter to all 3 companies and it was fixed pretty quickly.

How late were you on the "utility" bill?. Most cable companies will not report to the CB unless you have a judgement or something major.

I unknowingly lived in Chicago and didn't pay my utility bills while I went to college at Mississippi State. I was never able to get it fixed. It stayed on my credit until it rolled off in seven years.

I pulled my own report recently and saw that they still listed the Chicago address as a previous address.

Comcast was the only bill I had, including electricity, gas, water, and cell that reported every late payment. It was a little ridiculous. I was never late enough to have services cut. I just paid my late fee most of the time and went about my business, had no idea they reported until I pulled my credit recently.

I have had success getting actual mistakes removed.

My wife has a couple of old issues that are legit issues, we have tried the "spray and pray" as you put it, and have had no success.
