To each his own. I do have a question for you though. Why do you think you can actually use gold more than Bitcoin?
I don’t have a lot of use for gold but there are a lot of industrial and consumer uses.
That said,
Quick story, during the aftermath of Katrina, I was desperately in need of some tree work to get a road cleared and remedy some roof damage. There was a group of guys with chainsaws down the road doing the work for others and I approached them for help. They wanted 1,500 buck cash. It was gouging and I knew it. I didn’t have that much cash and couldn’t get it.
What I did have was some gold jewlery and some gold coins that I had saved. All told, probably worth $800.
I traded them all of it for the work. It was totally worth it and I feel like I got the better end of the deal.
I just can’t see any use for bitcoin in that scenario. Am I missing something?

Nope, you aren’t missing anything in that scenario.
Interesting though that those guys believed you were giving them real gold? Did they test it somehow it did they take you at your word?

Good story. Best of luck with all of your gold.

The coin was stamped so it was easy to determine and the jewlery was a combo of earrings, a ring and some other items.
Frankly, I’m not certain of the gold content but they were okay with it.

Gold is up 71% from 5 years ago and I would say that more than beats the inflation rate

How does the recent $10,000 dollar drop in bitcoin sit with you.
You buying more?
Selling ?

Gold is now outperforming the DJIA since I graduated in college in 2006.

I don’t know where gold is going. But I have seen some recent articles to the effect that central banks around the world are buying it up. I wonder why that is.

FYI there are a lot of great fake coins out there. The Chinese are making realistic fakes of both bullion and collectible coins.

I’m sure there are. This was back in late 90’s and early 2000 when I bought them and got them through a friend who is a jewler and very reputable. I got them appraised by another jewler for insurance reasons and verified as legit.
I haven’t bought coins in many years though so I’m sure there’s a lot of counterfeit.
