So looking at getting a boat built from a private builder and trying to decide on how to finance it. The loan will be in the neighborhood of 15K however iirc financing for recreational vehicles usually carries a higher rate. If I get a personal loan from my bank will the rate vary depending on what I am using it for?

Rate will vary based on collateral and credit quality.

If it's unsecured, no. If it's secured, yes.

You should check out lightstream if you have good credit. No collateral, completely unsecured, good interest rates.

That's a good idea I just purchased a new motor for my boat through light stream. It was 3.24% for 3 years.
