Where is the best place to start looking for a home loan? Really just want to see what kind of loan I'd be able to get just to begin with.

Have no experience with this, so any help/advice would be great.

If you have a banking relationship with someone, that might no be a bad place to start.

Otherwise, I would find a mortgage broker, who can represent many companies and programs.

check with local bank they offer all the first time home buyer programs and can guide you thru the process. I wouldn't use a net lender for your first house.

Call a few people and just talk to them about the process. See who you like to deal with. Leah Giley with NOLA Lensing did mine and he was great. I hear good things about GMFS and Assurance locally as well.

Same guy did mine. He came highly recommended. You butchered his name pretty bad though .. Leigh Gilly

Check out summit funding. They are similar to NOLA. Not sure where you are looking so might not be applicable. Good Luck!

local lender you bank with. let them know you have a mortgage broker shopping rates as well but hope you can keep all business with them. Let mtg broker know you would like to keep business with local bank but best money wins at the end of the day.
