Could the issue with Greece have an impact on stocks in the US? I know this could be a political conversation, but I was curious about the financial aspect of the issue.

Have you looked at the market lately? Absolutely it will, albeit it will be short lived and may be a cause for the madly predicted "correction."

Agreed. In US markets buy levels for me are 2040 on SPX and 17500ish in the Dow.

Beware of Greeks Bearing Bonds - 5 yrs. ago
I always thought that this Vanity Fair article was excellent.
And the comments from the recent yahoo article.

EMERGENCY PLAN?
"We should work out an emergency plan because Greece would fall into a state of emergency," Germany's EU commissioner Guenther Oettinger said. "Energy supplies, pay for police officials, medical supplies, and pharmaceutical products and much more" needed to be ensured.
In Athens, Tsipras - the 40-year-old leftist leader elected on a pledge to end austerity - betrayed few signs of alarm.
Ignoring warnings from European policymakers that it was up to Athens to act now, Tsipras coolly said he was happy to wait it out till the lenders changed their minds.

I don't know much about the intricacies of global finance, but I'll assume that every one in the Eurozone knows Greece is a lost cause because it is structurally dysfunctional, and continue to work with them to drag out the damage so it won't be so harmful to the rest of them.
Of course, the blame really should be on the Euro members. They knew Greece was a backwater economic shithole when they admitted them, but feigned ignorance when accepting their application to the Eurozone.
I swear you can't even find people working half the day there. Made it hard to eat lunch with everybody sleeping or doing whatever they do there.
