East Baton Rouge Property Taxes

Does anyone here have an idea about how to get a property tax reassessment in EBR? Some property that I own (recently purchased) in EBR has a higher assessed value than the neighboring properties.
Or, am I just stuck with what I have because I recently purchased the property and it's been a while since the neighboring properties sold?

Appeals Process
Each year in accordance with the revised statutes, the assessor's office opens its books for public inspection. The books are open for 15 calendar days (as distinguished from 15 business days) for inspection by the public to review current assessments. It is at that time that you may discuss any discrepancies in the assessed value of your property. After public inspection, the Metro Council sits as a board of review to hear any complaints. If the Metro Council agrees with either the Assessor or complainant, either of the parties can appeal their decision to the Louisiana Tax Commission. After the first of August each year, a call to the Assessor's office will reveal the open dates scheduled for that year.
IMPORTANT DATES & RESOURCES
January 1
Property is assessed as to condition and ownership as of this date.
April 1
Deadline for filing self-reporting forms for business personal property.
August 15 through September 15
Tax Roll open for public inspection for a 15 day period. The exact dates are published annually in the Advocate newspaper.
November 15
Louisiana Tax Commission certifies the Tax Roll by this date. Sheriff and Ex-Officio Tax Collector mails tax notices shortly thereafter.
December 31
Property taxes are due and payable by this date and become delinquent thereafter. Taxes are collected by the Sheriff's Office. The Assessor's Office does not accept payment. If you have any questions, please contact the Sheriff's Office at 225-389-4810.

You can call the downtown Acessor's office. I was in a similar situation. The guy I talked to was real nice. They had the value of my house about 40k more than it should have been. He did some research and agreed. The changes have to go through the state tax commission I believe. Btw I did this last October and recieved the changes mid-January.
