Do you use a personality test when hiring new employees?

If so, do you produce the test and results internally or do you do the whole test through another company?
Ideally, we would like to do it ourselves rather purchase the service on a case by case basis from through another company.
Any recommendations are welcomed.
TIA

those tests are terrible. everyone just picks the answers that they think are correct and not what they actually fall under.

That was my feelings towards it as well. But it was requested as something to look into.
Apparently there has been positive results using the ones that focus on a particular industry.

Waste of money. If the HR employee and hiring supervisor can not make the right call on their own, you have the wrong HR employee and supervisor.
If you go that route, use someone that will present the results directly to you and that person is the one consulting the question session. Simply understanding the results is an art.

I believe Myers/Briggs to have been fairly well used during the days of CQI...quite frankly, if properly administered they can serve as a basis for understanding potential applicants. However, I have found that what people hold truly dear/close to be more important than one's personality, after all even gangsters have personalities
Good luck

We've started using these tests when evaluating candidates. We got in a position where we had hired too many of a certain type for our software development teams so we started using a test to figure out candidates a little more. We find that the teams function best when they're more diverse. Better ideas, respond to change better, work as a team better, etc.
We do it internally and use a free test one of my fellow managers found somewhere.
For example:

Based off of the products I have found, it doesn't seem very profitable to have that service unless you're looking to make $10 maybe per employee.

Honestly, I would just print out one of the free Meyers Briggs on the interwebs and go with that.
It's mostly garbage anyways.

Never used one for hiring decisions, but we have used them from time to time to help employees understand themselves.
I do believe in diverse teams and I'm a big fan of Strengths Based Leadership. I would never use that as an employment screen but I think it's a fascinating tool to use with a team of employees, as well as helping managers understand their styles.

We have candidates do a personality test as part of the screening process. It provides some insight into potential questions to ask and may alert you to some trouble areas.
Part of the process but not an overriding factor.

What service do you do it through? Do you do the test internally or just pay for the candidates to take one off the internet?

No. Waste of money and time.

Not if their employer is paying for the service. It wouldn't cost us anything.
