What is the best site to review annual credit reports? Are the membership ones better than the free ones?

Depends on what you are needing your credit score for reference as there are so many different models
If you are looking for mortgage/auto loan and want exact number
MyFico cost a fee but you can get the exact scores used for mortgage/auto loan if you pay for the right report (got to make sure that model is included)
If you are just trying to generally track credit and improve score
Any of the free services like creditkarma, credit.com or even "FICO" scores on credit cards are decent options.

I should add to the above statement, that your credit score is different depending on what type of credit you are applying for
For example, your credit score for mortgages is not the same for credit card applications.
Also, any of the "experian" or "transunion" scores out there are "FAKO" scores that are not real and you pay for things you can get for free.

I've paid for one of those things before and it's just a waste of money
Don't ever do it

The only reason to pay for a score is if you are about to apply for a mortgage/auto loan. You have to get an authentic score which I've only seen provided by myFico
I paid for the mortgage model on myfico and that score was 100% accurate to what my lender pulled the next day

This is the free one:
Annual Credit Report
Don't pay for the ones that send you spams or want you to sign up for "credit monitoring" etc. Those are ripoffs baw.
This is the best one for monitoring your credit on a regular basis (for free), and info on improving your credit score:
Credit Karma

Annual Credit Report is best option (does not give score, but shows what is hurting or helping your credit)
Credit Karma is always 20-80 points HIGHER than your true score. Would not waste the time on it

Annualcreditreport.com
Is the only site approved by federal government... Allows one pull every 12 months.

That is simply not true.

If you want your credit score as it relates to credit lending, this is the absolute most moronic advice someone can give. It is the equivalent of someone asking an engineer "How much weight can this elevator hold" and the engineer saying "well here are the materials we made it out of you calculate the physics"

Made a new thread that gives more informed thoughts on this subject
To get your credit history for free, the only 100% accurate way is through annualcreditreport w/e. It is government required by law to be free once a year provided by credit reporting agencies.
Your credit report is often times available for free on places like Credit Karma but they only update 2/3 andinfrequently.

Ok AmeriKop45. I see 2-5 people a day that come into dealership that state and/or show CreditKarma score, and pull Equifax & Transunion, not once was it within 10 points. Actually average difference is 60 points difference, always true score is lower. But what do I know, just see it everyday

If every person I've met is a CEO, does not mean all people are CEOs.
What you are saying is just not true. Just because you see people's credit scores every day does not mean you know how credit works.Your comment is absolutely incorrect.
ETA - While it is true that CreditKarma is a TU and EQ PROXY score, meaning it shadows those two scores, and is not always exactly the same as true scores, to make a blanket comment on the relationship between the two is almost always going to be an inaccurate one.

I know how credit work, I stated that creditkarma scores are not accurate (score does not determine everything in credit). That is truth

Doesn't sound like it.
To answer the OPs question "in short" - Check Credit Karma. For laymen like you and I, that, along with free FICO scores from a number of avenues, is enough to give you a materially fair representation of your credit health.
If you want and you know how to read your credit report (will not include credit score) you can get 1 free annual report every year. But like someone said - that info is too broad and more than likely not going to be useful for you. But I recommend that you do this anyway to check if anything out of the ordinary is going on on your record so you can dispute that.
You are also entitled to a free credit report anytime someone places a hard inquiry on your record. Applying for credit cards, closing on loans etc.
End of story.

AmeriKop45, glad you think you read 'financing for dummies' makes you an expert. I deal with credit scores, info, and people in different situations 6 days a week for years, so stop 'thinking' you know what your talking about. I made a statement that is truth, creditkarma is not accurate to true score, is it going to show you are a 700 and you are really a 550. Will it give you a 'large ballpark range', sure. I would suggest OP go to Free Annual Report and let him/her see what is digged/good on credit to let them know how to start improving it.
Posted on 2/13/16 at 1:05 pm to CoachRobertson
Relax. I know a little more than 'financing for dummies.'
I am saying your blanket comment of true score always being X - Y points less than CK score is wrong.

1) Credit Karma does not give FICO scores.
2) No person has one "true score" but multiple scores specific to lending type. Your FICO scoring model for auto loans is different than Mortgages which is different from credit card models.

If you have someone willing to pay to have more complete information, you should start telling your customers to go to myFico.com . Just ensure you tell them what models you use for credit checks so they can purchase the correct option
This is the OFFICIAL FAIR ISAAC Scoring website and 100% accurate.

The OP asked for credit reports, not a FICO score. In this case, Annual Credit Report is indeed the best option and the only one I would consider.
You could have worded your answer to be informative instead of sounding like a tool.

My CreditKarma score has always been much LOWER than my FICO score.
