I don't know the ins and out of the program or which airlines are best for Costa Rica, you can search and see if there's some partner airlines that are better and then transfer your points to them and get the rates better than going directly through the airline. Example, I transfer 25,000 points to Korean and that will buy me a RT ticket from Hawaii to the mainland on Delta. If I were to book directly with Delta it would be more than double that. You can do similar with Avios booking with AA or AS although they don't seem to have much availability.

The other option is to just book through the Chase portal if you're too confused or don't want to do all the transferring. Call them if you have questions but you can go to the website as well.

Is it better to do a Chase biz and personal card application on the same day or wait some specified time between them?

Can someone break it down into simple terms what the best way to use our points would be?

Can be difficult to put in simple terms. With how low flight prices can be to Costa Rica I could make the argument to not use them at all for that trip.

I need you to talk in depth about how to do Korean. I sort of attempted using them for my Africa trip but the whole call them, give them dates and they call you back with the possibility of having to do that over and over made me shut that shite down and just use United.

Sure not the best award chart compared to Korean but I'm not about to frick around

Ah frick me ya I thought I read somewhere only certain ones were available and mine weren't, but I probably fricked that up

Now that I think about it I think I did try it but my wife gets very specific about available dates due to her work and I couldn't make it work with them IIRC. Ya, I just went back to their site and I did indeed try them. If I wasn't trying to lock something in specific I would have been more patient with it.

On the Plastc front with mortgages, I may try that. I pretty much only redeem fro biz class so buying points at 2.5 cents isn't the worst deal to speed things up from time to time.

Let's see the math, $1,000 mortgage as an example is $25 in fees; 1,000 dollars x 3 points per dollar = 3,000 UR * .02 cents per point = $60 in UR sound about right? I'm sure it will be shut down by year's end if not sooner.

I don't know if the KA award is good for Africa but you can check on Flying Blue first to see if the dates are available. So once I see they are I call Korean SkyPass and then yes, they call you back and you tell them the dates. In the cases where I looked on FB (actually you're looking on AirFrance from the FB website) first and there were dates Korean had it available and it was simple to put them on hold. And that's the second best part you can put it on hold and don't even have to have the UR points yet or transfer them right away unless you're ready to go.

50k for me and wifey to fly to NOLA RT for Jazz Fest a couple weeks ago. You do have to do some paperwork though the first time to register your family with them and then after that you still have to send a award redemption form each time but it's so worth it. I have another trip held right now to SLC in January as we're going to Sundance and doing some snowboarding. I don't even have to transfer the UR to KA until 12/31 they told me so now I can see if something else comes up where I'd rather save my UR but I doubt I'm going to beat 50k UR for me and wifey to fly non-stop on Delta to SLC. But again, I don't know if this trick works for Africa or international but I do know it's a sweet spot for HI.

Ya, I knew about the hold thing which a really nice thing to have. Takes the stress out of the possibility that something changed while transferring, which sort of did when I booked Africa.

Oh well, I'll be better prepared next go around. I'm usually not hurting for UR with strategic applications and only one big trip using them a year or so.

I am new to this and I am trying to see if my expectations are realistic. Once a year I would like to be able to use points for 4 airline tickets and a 1 week hotel stay. Is that possible if I am spending $3,000 per month on credit cards?
How many cards would you suggest I churn?

You couldnt just get one card and charge 3k a month and get 4 flights and free week. You would have to get multiple cards for the various sign up bonuses to do that.

To where? Somewhere in the US or international? What class of service (if you care)?

As the other poster stated, you would probably have to churn a bit. Getting 4 business class award tickets would be difficult if that was a desire.

Earning enough points to cover domestic airfare would be doable, however you could/may be better off using cash back cards for those fares if you aren't willing to churn fast enough.

There are more than a few variables and possible strategies based on your travel goals.

Wow, this thing was on Page 4. It used to have a lot of activity.

Hopefully I get a bite

Ok, I've been saying I love my Ink+ and will never get rid of it but I was reading how people use multiple Chase cards to really maximize the UR program. Yes, I'm late to learning this, somehow missed it and you guys didn't tell me

Since I travel quite a lot and eat out a whole bunch should I have the Sapphire instead as the annual fee card and get the Ink cash for the 5x in the other categories I spend a lot on? I really don't want to give up the Ink + since it's no longer available but I'd like to earn 2x on dining and travel since I'm only earning 1x currently.

What about the Freedom, does that get me something I should think about too? What cards are the best to have to really maximize?

Freedom has rotating 5X categories. $1500 spent in a quarter nets 7500 points. So that's 30k points for $6k spend a year if maxed.

I got the ink bold business a couple of years ago. Would I be eligible for the bonus on the ink business preferred card? Is there anyway to confirm this with Chase without jeopardizing the application?

So should I get the Freedom and Ink Cash, cancel my Ink+ and get the CSP or CSR? Would that maximize?

I'm pretty sure you can. Maybe call Chase? I have the Ink+ and am thinking of getting the Ink Preferred just for the 80k and cancelling before the next AF.
