The idea of being a partner is awesome. The amount of work and time that takes virtually means you will have little to no life outside of work. I once thought that I would like that type of opportunity but have realized that isn't the case.

As yellowfin just posted some people act like because they are working 50+ a week means you absolutely should.

Houston - I'm not taking this job, I'm going to continue looking and won't leave unless the right opportunity presents itself. Idk how you do it man. I just had to try to recompute a prior year AMT NOL for a carryback and was like why in the hell am I doing this?!?

I'm looking to make the jump to industry soon. I don't think I can do another tax season knowing I can be making more in industry

The ACA and the 3115 issues made this tax season terrible. It only gets worse next year.

Oh, your Louisiana friends are about to have a lot more fun. The idiots in Baton Rouge are seriously considering some bills that would put a haircut on certain deductions and credits. However, the bills as worded (there are like 5 or 6 with this identical language) say that the new rules are effective for any tax return FILED after June 30, 2015, regardless of tax year.

So, if you file a 2014 tax return on June 29, 2015, you file under the current rules. If you file a 2014 tax return on July 2, 2015, you file under the new rules - which means you get a haircut on deductions, so you pay more in state tax.

Same thing on an amended return - if you file a 2013 amended return on July 2, 2015, you get the same haircut.

It is absolutely insane, and probably illegal, but in order for the additional revenue to "count" towards the 2015-2016 budget it apparently has to be done that way.

I would have stayed in Public to become a partner if being Partner meant you finally get to take a break and work 40 hour weeks while making good money. But that isnt the case. Partners make money but they still have a shitty quality of life

Our client base means most Of our returns are filed before the deadline. But you're right, some people are about to be pissed.
