I don't care lunchbox, I am offering suggestions on what I would buy. For example, I wouldn't touch that Mazda because my family has had realibility issues with them and I believe Subaru makes a much better vehicle.
And I still won't buy a three series either

To all...
This has been very helpful. I first thought about buying a compact SUV several months ago and then placed in on the back burner because I just hate buying cars. Then I realized I'm gonna hate it even more when college football season starts.
So, here is where we stand for Thursday's shopping trip:
No GM or Ford... both wife and I have had bad experiences.
No Honda... The car may be great but the dealership here gives me the creeps.
No Subaru... I really want to look at it but the wife says 'Subaru's are yuckie.' I might look at one on the sly.
So, on Thursday I'm looking at:
Used Lexus Rx 350
Mazda CX 3 or CX 5
Nissan Rogue
Toyota RAV 4
3 of those 4 dealerships are located in the same place in Bossier. Mazda is just a couple miles away.
Thanks again!

Lexus of Bossier will absolutely come off their ridiculous prices. I got $4k off my wife's CPO RX350. I showed the salesman a duplicate car in Dallas for $4k less than his asking price. He asked if I would buy it today if he matched, and I did.
Moffitt Mazda is pretty good to deal with. Without asking they offered a $500 discount off the 2016 CX5 and agreed to add XM to the radio free ($400). This was back in April when there were only a few 2016's on the lot. You may do better now.

I've heard good things about the Jeep Cherokee. They are really nice inside.
I have a Subaru Forester and love it, definitely the best bang for the buck.

Zach, just go in and give all of them a test run and don't listen to what I or Lunchbox have to say. Than you will be free of bias and be able to choose the vehicle you/wife wants to drive.

Are you in Shreveport?

The reason for the thread is to cull this down. I could go out and test drive every car at every dealership and it would take me weeks. I want this to be a painless experience... 3 hours max from the time I start till the time I drive a car home. I think the schedule I've got set up will work.

I test drove a Rav4 (sister looking for crossover) and was really impressed. Also a great deal for a car that will last a hell of a long time. I had bought a car just a couple months earlier and was upset I didn't give Rav4 a try before I went with my Camry.

Then you are good. How are things in New Iberia these days? Haven't been down to my hometown in 10 years.

Coach Guidry is in NOLA right? If he's in NI and at Honda, I was most pleased with my purchase there.

Zach if you choose the Nissan let me know. I just moved from Shreveport to Bossier but my previous next door neighbor is a salesman at Nissan in Shreveport and will get you in and out with no bullshite.

Zach,
It's a great time to look at the Hyundai Tucson. They are delivering the 2016 models to dealerships this month. You can get a fully loaded top of the line 2015 trim level for less than than the base trim level price. The Hyundai warranty is outstanding and I recently test drove one and was surprised at the "luxury car" smoothness of the ride.

I already suggested 2016 Kia Sportage. They come with ton of features this year, best warranty coverage, and has more room than most competition.

Thanks. I'm gonna add that to my list along with Buick's compact SUV because the wife scratched two off the list.
She won't consider the Mazda or the used Lexus. She says the Mazda is 'yuckie' and she doesn't want a used car. We can't afford the new Lexus.
So, we've got...
Buick
Hyundai
Toyota
Nissan
The only

That's why I just showed up to the house with a Lexus and tossed her the keys.

Had one of those Buicks as a rental on a recent business trip. Really rough ride and the interior felt cheap and plasticky.
Just an FYI.
Good luck on your search.

Out of those, Toyota is the clear answer for me followed by the Hyundai. The Buick is way too small and feels cheap on the inside, and Nissan's transmissions aren't worth the risk to me.
