When purchasing VTSMX inside my Vanguard roth, will the executed price be that of the time of trade execution or will it be the price on the close of the day?

End of day.

Buy the correlating ETF if you want immediate execution.

So is there any point in buying one of these funds early in the day if the market is down a lot, or is it always better to wait until the end of the day so there are no surprises?

How much cash you got?

If a substantial amount, I would dollar cost average over a few days probably.

Intraday, the PPP will kick in and prop the markets up, or really just keep them from falling more.

But there's nothing they can do to keep them from falling again the next day...

It will always trade at the closing price.

That price can change with even 10 minutes remaining in the session, so I don't why you'd worry about it.

If you wait until the market closes, your trade won't process until end of the next session.

I think he was asking about the ETF?

I was more asking if it would be smarter to buy the fund right before the close of the day to avoid any surprises rather than buy the fund at the beginning of the day when both trades end up being the close price anyway
