That's a lot of good fortune on this message board. I agree on hard work but sometimes that doesnt always equate to large pay at a young age depending on what field you are in. Yeah I have a hard time beliving. It would be nice to list the actual professions is all.

I think anyone under 30 with a income over $12k seems slightly suspect. $15k monthly would be $180k a year which would slot you in the top 5% of the population. Lying about income on the internet is pretty common.

But again, its a higher rent type of poster.

I would be willing to bet most of them have a tie to the Oil & Gas/Petrochem Industry.

Operators at plants can easily get to $35-$40/hr and above. Then add in OT and salaries can get high quickly.

As mentioned, engineering professions in the South pay very well. ChemEs/MEs/PetEs in O&G/Chem are rewarded very highly for doing well in school. Starting salaries have skyrocketed in just past 10 years (from $50k to over $85k).

In addition, the Money Board tends to attract the successful and money conscience of the boards. So it's no real surprise you have a higher average salary.

ETA: Since I guess I'm suspect, MechE in PetroChem. Graduated/started working at 21, so age is relative to experience as well.

Agreed. I know 1 person in that bracket under 30 and he was my roommate in college that started off as an analyst for Barclay's in New York. Extremely rare out of Arkansas.

Now he's doing massive M&A deals globally for a tech company.

Very very rare and I have a bunch of lawyer/other finance friends that do extremely well by all accounts.

Its not impossible but I think its rare. maybe if they are married and both work in Oil and gas but again top 5% of the population.

Mentioned this already in my post. Engineer yes, but I was categorizing that as an offshore job with O&G. Prob should have been more specific.

I just skimmed back through the thread and only noticed 2 people that said they were single, <30 and making 12k/month. Most of the posts of 12k+/month were joint incomes.

And as others have said, depending on the industry and/or location, it doesn't seem that far-fetched. I'm a few years away from 30, but if I do well, I could be knocking on 12k/month (if you include my bonus spread out over the year). I'm not banking on it though.

even joint it sounds suspect. Not saying that its ridiculous, but its still a lot of money for a couple under 30.

Granted, the wife and I were right around $12k/month when I was 30.

Depends where you live. Around here if you aren't making $200k or more a household you aren't keeping up.

It is. But my wife and I will be there before I'm 30 for sure. We are pretty close right now if I assume I will hit my full bonus.

So you could do it 11 years ago but its unreasonable for a couple to do it now??

-----

As others have said, the demographics of this entire site are probably skewed, plus the thought that this board lends itself to many financially-conscious proefessionals.

Let's take 1 profession for example: accounting. You could easily have a young married couple @ 27yo who both have masters in accounting and CPAs and work at Big 4 firms in a major metro area (in the south). Assuming they have 2-3 years work experience at least, they are raking in 65-70k/person at least I would think.

Are you in DC?

And its sad how that is becoming the case in many areas. Lots of big companies out of touch with this.

I left Los Angeles because my company was so delusional about what it takes to live out there. Utterly clueless.

I can absolutely believe most of the salaries posted. I'm civil and I know I make low on the Engineering Salary totem pole. My buddy came out of LSU Making 100k/year in houston as a Petroleum Engineer (I saw his offer letter. It included a $17k signing bonus). Another one making 89k for Chevron as ME, and another making 98k for Chevron in pittsburg as Petroleum. It exists man.

Most of my operator buddies can make well over 100k, but work 1,000+ hrs of overtime every year.

I agree. But other than Engineers, Docs, some laywers...where would you be making that much in your 20s?

Operators, Vendor Salesman, Construction management for Industrial construction companies, and there are probably more I didn't list.
