I recently purchased a 2010 certified Toyota Avalon for 22000. If you want a smooth quiet ride, check them out.

Best car for ~25k. What would you get?
Do you have to have new? frick, Id get a 2yr old vehicle with less than 20k miles. I very seriously doubt I will ever buy new again.
Having said that, if you have to have new, I'd look at the Kia Optima. That is a very very nice vehicle.

These days, the difference between new and slightly used isn't all that much. It definitely depends on what car you're looking at, but it may only be $2500, and if you can get 0 interest on a new car, you'll make most of that money back in saved interest.
My parents bought Camrys (one green and one blue) in 1996. Dad kept his until 2010 when he upgraded to another new Camry. Mom got a Highlander in 2012, and in 16 years, neither of those cars had any major problems, and were hardly ever in the shop for little things. Dad upgraded to a 2013 Camry on a trade-in special, and the redesigned Camrys are really really nice. Touch screen (not navigation) built in Bluetooth, a VERY peppy engine with a ton of getup. And they're pretty sporty looking. If I wanted a car, they would definitely be the first thing I drove.

Honda Accord is the only correct answer here.

Bought a used 2010 Camry last year and it had Goodrich Ecopia tires on it. Very quiet and good ride and supposed to be "mileage enhancers", which may be true. Getting 31-32 mpg highway with V-6. Very pleased with these tires as far as ride and noise.
Correction, those are Bridgestones, but good tires

I've never bought a new car, and likely never will. Very bad use of money imo.
That's your grandpa's way of thinking. It depends on make/model/warranties/interest rate/etc. that's determines a better value. You dont' think the market has shifted to your line of thinking? So, I'd recommend doing your homework before jumping to that conclusion. You may be correct in saying you can get used for cheaper but that isn't always the best value. Due Diligence is the key IMO.

My choice would also be a Toyota Camry. The Kia Optima is a sporty car in that price range that I would consider as well.

Head good things about the Buick regal. Loved the Hyundai Tucson too (small SUV).
People seem to really like the Mazda 6 or the SUV they make.
Personally I think the best deal is often in the financing of a new car--if you can't get less than 2% go get financing at PenFed

Bought my wife a 2013 Kia Optima in August. Power windows, cruise, hands free integration satellite/bluetooth radio, no sunroof or power seats.
We agreed on just under $19K and with the trade we owed a bit on, we financed $16K for 60 months at 1.9%.
She had a 2009 Dodge Charger SRT that had the Hemi 396HP. It was a BEAST. But so was the $476 monthly car note. Her note now is $295, and she saves over $100/month in gas alone.
The thing that put me over the top with Kia was the 60K bumper to bumper warranty and an100K on the power train. Several years of free maintenance in the negotiation was sweet as well.
No need to overspend on a car like that. They hired Audi's design guy so their interiror and exteriors are very impressive.
Give me a look brah.

I think the Kia optimas are pretty nice as well but all of you guys keep saying "I bought my wife so and so car.." And that just enhances the stereotype I have against certain cars that seem to be driven by mostly women

With buying a new/used vehicle, it just becomes your take to you work machine. Don't worry about stereotypes, nobody cares what you drive. They are thinking about the least they can do to get by and get home faster from work.
The newness goes away after a week. At least that's the why I am. I think cars have come a long way in the last 6 to 7 years.

I drive an SUV without a note. I'd drive the hell out of our Optima as an everyday car if I didn't mind a note. I commute from Walker to downtown BR daily and my gas is right at 20mpg. The wife commutes to Bluebonnet area and she gets about 28 or 29.
Has nothing to do with Alpha/Beta to me. All about Benjamin's...

I just bought a 2010 Honda pilot for the wife, 28,000 miles, for $22k. She loves it.

SOOOO..
If I was to get a used car and my price range was still around ~25k what would be a good choice?
Nothing older than 2012 and I'm down with SUV's as well.

Oh, and we still have manufacturers warranty just as if it was new.
You mean you have 2/3 of a factory warranty. And what you buy and how much did you pay?

The way it is set up these days...getting a used car instead of new is a terrible idea.
