Does anyone have experience with these or invested in them currently?

I have a small position in one - just as a slight hedge.

I'm not sure if it makes sense to just have a small position in one, considering it is inverse of all of my other investments.

Wouldn't it only make sense to go all in either one way or the other?

Does it make sense to be invested in domestic growth funds and international bear funds which won't necessarily counter-act each other?

be careful of price decay in high volatility

Lot of money sitting on the sideline waiting to get back in

Update to my fist post - PSSAX is my holding - it is just under 5% of my retirement funds and less than 1% of my total holdings.

It works for me - on large loss days it helps stop the bleeding - is it right for everyone? I don't know.

Also note, I am a stock and mutual fund whore - I save to buy more investments - I plow dividends back into investments. I do it myself and don't seek professional counsel.

2008 taught me some life lessons but full disclosure, PSSAX is down 14% for me...but I am comfortable with that.

I prefer to trade ETF's rather than funds because i can trade them 'real time' instead of funds which is traded at the close.

Bear Market ETF's or shorts...

I trade QID which is 2X the inverse of QQQ.(nasdaq)

SH , which is basically inverse of the SP500.

Also. Trade gold/silver. SLV(silver), GLD(gold),GDX(gold mining stock) &GDXJ(gold mining juniors stock) "these are all very volatle."

I was down 1.79% today overall.

Not too bad since my portfolio is still nearly all stock at my age.

Try dabbling in the futures and options market. It's so much fun right now!

I use a 360 long/short fund that has held up quite well recently to dampen the volatility. However, my core holding are pretty tame to begin with.

I realize that now. Shame on me for falling asleep at the wheel.
