Are Gift Cards From a Vendor Taxable By Your Employer?

Example: You're in sales and a vendor gives you, directly, a gift card as a sort of bonus or incentive. Can your employer tax that, or is it strictly between you and the vendor?
I realize gift cards are taxable, but the question is does the employer have authority to tax a gift card given to the employee by a third party vendor? TIA.

I have no clue but I would be pretty pissed if they tried.
EDIT: I don't see how they could, though. You're hypothetically getting the "revenue" from somebody else.

I'm not sure if kickbacks are taxable but I wouldn't mention them around the office.

It's up to you to claim it. The vender is required to issue a 1099 if it's for $600 or more.
