I can't see us even competing at Auburn, but we definitely can compete in the other 3.

Nothing I would love better than to start eating crow Re: all my doubts and concerns about CMM.

A&M seem to have run into some offensive woes.

They haven't been a great shooting team all season. Their offensive numbers were propped up by being the most dominant offensive rebounding team in the country. LSU outrebounded them. Which is what led to the 15 point win. A&M got back to being themselves on the glass at Auburn...which is why it was a close game throughout.

I don’t like them on the road against anyone.

Their defense is starting to come around a bit and teams that can rebound generally have a good chance to win on the road. The 2018-2019 LSU team was a bad "shooting" team. Yet, they went 9-0 on the road in SEC play almost entirely because they were the most dominant offensive rebounding team in the league.

I wouldn't dismiss A&M just yet.

Agreed. I think I said it the other day, I’m not really into moral victories, but really would like us to fight and compete all the way through tomorrow. I think that’s more of the gauge than being disappointed in a probable loss.

Every objective data point says this game should be a blowout. So I wouldn't be surprised if that is exactly what happens. But, the A&M game looked like it was going to be a blowout too and LSU showed up and took away A&M's biggest advantage. Now, I think Auburn has more ways to beat you than A&M does, but let's see if LSU can compete.

This is also game 3 which is when the wheels fell off for McMahon last season after the league started to adjust to LSU and McMahon. By his own admission McMahon didn't know how to counter. If nothing else, McMahon should have more options at his disposal this season. He also has a guy (Cook) who can generate his own offense. I'm sure Pearl and Auburn will have a plan to take away what LSU wants to do. Can McMahon counter? That's something I want to see

Same.

Have you seen any lines on this game yet?

Metrics suggest -19 or so Auburn at home, but lines have been weird though. ETA: I expect the line to be -15/16.

LSU was +11.5 @TAMU, should probably been closer to +15, and of course we all know LSU won outright.

LSU was -8.5 versus Vandy and to me the line should have been closer to LSU -11 or so. LSU won by 8.

I'm just curious, no takeaways yet.

yeah but now you have to play 9-11 players

FWIW Auburn has been doing that for years under Pearl

Not much to say here. Auburn is one of the hottest teams in the country, and they may have the biggest home court advantage in the SEC. Expect carnage

Ole Miss

Very winnable IMO. Ole Miss is trending in the same direction as LSU was last year. New coach, lots of new transfers, beat up on a bunch of terrible schools in the nonconference, and now getting a dose of reality. Beard will have his guys ready to play, and it should be a close game, but I think the tigers ultimately pull it out.

quote:

A&M

A&M is a decent matchup for LSU. They really struggle to put the ball through the net. The flip side to that is that they are one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country. I'm not counting on 10 boards from Wright again in this one. Fountain/Baker/Dean will need to be on their A game. At the end of the day, A&M will come into the PMac desperate for a win. Give me the weirdos from College Station in a close one.

quote:

@Georgia

Probably the most improved team in the SEC. Mike White is an experienced coach in this league, and it seems that hire is finally beginning to pay dividends for the dawgs. They don't particularly do any one thing great, but are a solid team all around. This feels like a toss up, until you realize McMahon has 1 road win his entire tenure. I think a hot UGA takes a close one at home.

That being said, I don't think anyone here would've been mad at a 3-3 start through the first 1/3 of conference play.

I think Georgia has played better than they really are. They're 2-0 in SEC play but their two wins are over Missouri (next to Vandy prolly the weakest SEC team this year) and Arkansas who has yet to play anywhere near their potential. Georgia's not that good; they may be 2-3 when we travel to Stegeman

If you are a predictive analytics guy Georgia and Ole Miss are much better matchups for LSU than A&M.

Current KenPom ratings:

(34) A&M
(71) Ole Miss
(73) Georgia
(84) LSU

I think the reasonable best case scenario for LSU is that they lose tomorrow; split the home games vs. Ole Miss and A&M; lose @ Georgia for a 3-3 record to start SEC play. That's not great. Particularly considering the competition after that will get much stronger. But for a team that looked like 4-5 SEC wins might be a tall task when conference play started, a 3-3 start would be encouraging.

I've been using EvanMiya and have been impressed with his system.

Current EM

(30) A&M
(52) Ole Miss
(77) LSU
(96) Georgia

So, it likes Ole Miss more and UGA less than KP. Ole Miss will be a really tough game for LSU, and, as has been previously stated, on the road at UGA will be tough. I would be very pleased with 2-2 but wouldn't be surprised to see 0-4. Given the number of Louisiana connections now on the roster, I doubt this team will give up on the season, but an 0-4 stretch would gut any momentum from the program.

Yep. Not sure UGA can hold on, but was 78-72 UGA, now 78-78.

The line is -13.5. I'm so nervous for this game. I hope rds starts game thread soon.
