We will get an NIT bid and we might win one game.

If the NIT would advertise and sell itself to the right people, it'd be pretty damn cool. 25 of the 32 teams are better than 24 of the ones who make the dance.

The CBI and these pop-up, barely on television post season, parting-gifts consolation mudbuckets need to be eliminated and this would give the NIT even more credibility.

For instance, if this year's NIT's number one seeds were LSU, Illinois, Rhode Island, and Clemson...and the 2's were the likes of NC State, Ole Miss, St. John's, and St. Mary's, the how is this not attractive basketball? The SWAC, MEAC, and the like put in teams that would get beaten down by the ones I just mentioned.

It's all about selling yourself. And until the NIT continues to stop doing a POOR job of this, the tourney will just be like watching December bowl games at noon on ESPN2. How many times have you turned on the TV less than 48 hours after Selection Sunday and said, "Damn. Iowa and U Mass are playing already?" I understand the NIT has literally no time to blink once the NCAA 68 teams are announced, but change that. Find a way for ESPN and CBS (and the other 16 networks who carry the games) to reach some sort of agreement.

Once upon a time, the NIT was hip and seen as an alternative...not a consolation.

Clearly not my first choice. But it is hardware. And it could be a good stepping stone to bigger things. Might whet Mickey/Martin's appetite to come back and challenge for the real thing.

we can still get in the NCAA tournament. We are a long way from being out of it just due to road loss at Texas A&M who is probably a tournament team as well. LSU is one team no team should want to face in the 1st round of the NCAA's as they are capable of beating anyone. Took Kentucky to the limit.

truth

and its likely they enter the selection day with 10 losses.

You really think ten loss teams should get to be in the NCAA's?

St John's lost a similar game to Villanova. Villanova is going to be a 1 or a 2 seed, and St Johns is going to be in one of the so-what tournaments.

How many losses do we have by 6 or less that are from not playing well? Should be 24-2 or 25-1 and in. If we won NIT Mickey and Martin would prolly leave, and neither is ready for the show. NCAA bid feeds their hunger for one more. Big Dance or Bust.

Any postseason at this point is a good thing. Would take a minor miracle for this team to get into the Dance.

We are a bubble team right now, so if lsu made the tourney it wouldn't be a huge surprise.

Missing the NCAA tourney doesnt mean youre the 65th best team. Horibble mid major conferences have automatic NCAA bids. Basketball teams can be 10 games below .500 can get into the tourney by getting hot and winning their conference tourney.

It would go a long way toward easing the disappointment of not making the NCAA Tourney.

Reality doe, This team is not ready for the NCAA, (Consistency wise).

However, I think there is still a good chance they get picked, save for an epic melt down. The powers that be love the possibility of upsets, and LSU is an intriguing team in that regard.

They upset me weekly.

Not at all. Remember that some of those are automatic qualifiers from lesser conferences. One team last year got in with a 12-15 record in a poor conference b/c they happened to catch fire in their conference tourney.

I'd rate an NIT title as being roughly equal to getting to the 2nd or 3rd round of the NCAA.

Sweet 16 in the NC2a is way more prestigious than winning the NIT IMHO. Now 35 or 40 years ago, winning the NIT meant you were probably a top 10 team because less than half the teams were in the dance than we now have. Now,I'd say it means you would more than likely have stood a better than even chance of winning one game but even that would depend on seed and draw.

I wasn't talking about prestige, I was talking about difficulty. Winning the NIT isn't nearly as marketable as making the round of 16, but I'd wager the teams that do would have a legitimate shot at getting to the 16.

NIT crown is better than being bounced from the round of 64
