I think Shep is almost the exact same, just in a differrent system.

The theory behind Crowton's offense is similar to Rich Rod's. Crowton just doesn't run it as well.

Our offense is designed for a dual threat QB that can make the exact same reads on single DBs as the WR in the option passing game. If that sounds convoluted, it should.

Crowton's offense just sucks in general. What makes it worse is that he tries to force this crappy offense with players that don't have the attributes to run it. Neither Jefferson or Lee are running QBs.

We are built to run a pro-style offense.

DR has a much bigger body than RS. I personally don't think RS could handle the physical abuse of being a full time running QB.

Not really. DR is like 6'0 and 185 and RS is 6'1 and 188.

DR has racked up yards against UConn and ND. He would not be as successful in the SEC and he wont be talked about at the end of this year.

Conjecture aside, who knows if RS would be a good SEC QB. Not real sure it matters if he continues to score in every game.

There is no doubt he would not be as successful against SEC with HIS team....but if he had OUR team I think he could be. Also...I do think he will be talked about at the end of the year. He is an amazing playmaker and unless he gets hurt he is going to have a monster season.

16 robinson denard
Denard Robinson QB 0 193 3
SO Deerfield Beach, Fla. (Deerfield Beach)

10 Russell Shepard WR 6-1 188

Ok. I was wrong on the bigger body, but DR looks solid where RS looks brittle.

Did you attend any home games last year ? In pre game warm ups, he threw the best of any of the QBs.

One of the reasons I started this was because I saw DRs weight online and it shocked me. He looks like he is at least 210 on the field where RS looks like he is 175. If they are the same size and similar athletes I thought it deserved to be discussed.

you are crazy if you think any qb (tebow didn't run that much) can run the ball as much as dr and stay healthy all season long in the sec. if he misses any time at qb the whole team goes to shite the way the offense is set up.

If you watch his HS tapes he has a cannon. What is surprising is that the ONLY REASON he picked LSU over Texas was because he was promised that he could play QB. Mack Brown has honest and told him he was only recruiting him as a wide receiver....which I think was a very stand up thing to do.

He had some nice throws in the UA Game. Shep can play QB in the SEC, no doubt about it.

miles gave him a legitimate shot at qb. that is what he was promised and that is what he got. lsu was as stand up as texas about it.

besides texas on did it because gilbert told them that he would not come to texas if they recruited shep as a qb.

I would love to see him get around a dozen snaps a game where he either runs the option/wild tiger and possibly has a few passes out of that formation.
there are absolutely zero logical reasons why this doesn't happen

It certainly seems like RS was misled into coming here.

I know people will say he had a fair shot and just didn't cut it, but not giving him a single opportunity to throw the ball in a game, given our QB struggles, doesn't seem like a fair shot to me. Then again, I don't really give this coaching staff the benefit of the doubt on anything.

Wasn't he driving 2 or 3 hours every week to work with Jeff Blake to improve his passing ability?

I agree with this...but I guess Les and Gary see him every day so maybe they do know best?

If I was a recruit choosing between Texas and LSU I would have to say I would pick Texas because of things like just like this. Les lied to Shep and Mack told him the truth....even though he knew it was going to cost him the recruit.

People will argue with me, until they are blue in the face, that shep isn't a D-1 QB and that he can't throw, etc. but they are fricking retarded. We should definitely have shep at QB some. I still want him to move back to the position and take over next year.

This.

+1000000000000000000000000000000000

I live in houston, I saw him play 4 times....kid can throw...not with the same velocity as Lee or JJ but has WAAAAAAY better accuracy then both....he ran the spread option in high school he would be fantastic at it in college...
let him get a few series at qb and this board blows up...

A kid like him wouldn't have played QB at Michigan in the 70s, so he won't play QB at LSU in 2010. That's all.

Agreed. There is no way anyone can honestly say he was given a fair shot. I think Les was just salivating at the chance of having a Percy Harvin.

Also....he is the second #1 rated QB we have recruited in 4 years...and they have BOTH been busts at QB. It amazes me that with recruiting like that we still sit here and argue all day about picking the lesser of 2 evils at QB.
