Doubtful.

This. For the rest of us, homecoming is so 30-years ago.

Most people who travel back for "Homecoming Festivities" don't give a frick about the football game, so keep giving them a rent-a-win.

It makes them happy, and it leaves the meaningful games to true Tiger football fans.

The 50,000 or so who stay the entire game, no matter what. (Actually, its probably closer to 20,000 during blow-out wins)

Even just a regular SEC game for Homecoming would be cool.
Back in the mid/late 1960s, LSU played UK for homecoming more than once. I remember Sammy Grezaffi running back a punt or a kickoff for a nice Tiger TD. Of course, LSU won. I think SoCarolina (before they joined the SEC) may have been a homecoming game for LSU too. These shameful cupcake FCS rent-a-win teams were no where to be found on respectable schedules back then.

We used to play Kentucky quite often for homecoming, and we've also played North Carolina.

Didn't we play UF for HC game in '78 or '79? Think Gault ran a kickoff back to start 3rd quarter. Or that could have been just a National Brand Bourbon memory.

Here is a link to all LSU Homecoming games since 1925.
LSU Football Homecoming Game History

Note that until around 1994 there were a lot of SEC opponents for Homecoming

Is Homecoming still a september game? I seem to remember that in the 90s it was in september. Make homecoming in october and have a decent game.

Homecoming does matter a little bit more to alumni out of town. It has become a more important fundraising thing for universities now. Bring back alumni from the business school etc. and see if you can raise some money.

Or would any college for that matter.

Well, if you happen to be the crappy team, then you wind up playing a "good team" for homecoming.
