Keep giving me more insight of yours I can't get enough. I don't know who else on this site could be so poignant and thought provoking.

We actually might because Tommy Mason-Griffin would be here which might of pushed us over the edge for 1 conference win....but the state of the program is much better under Trent than it was under brady. I just couldn't take Brady's inconsistency which we're still having to deal with this year.

Trent is going to recruit more 4-year type of guys and have them graduate. Get this program stable.

I guess this year poses the question....did Marcus Thornton and GT3 make Trent get his free pass this year or would he have earned it with average SEC players in those spots last year?

free pass? most people who follow lsu basketball were not expecting this team to be very competitive. trent johnson is a proven winner and he showed what he can do in this conference with talented players last year. this would have been one of, if not THE, worst teams brady had in his time here. johnson is recruiting very well and building a program that can win consistently. i will gladly accept a winless conference record early in his tenure while he recruits and develops the players he needs for his system so that he can build a program that competes for SEC championships and is a lock for the tourney every year. i wouldn't trade trent johnson for any coach in the conference.

I like his honesty. I think it will be difficult for him to win many games with the present group of players. He has to be given enough time to recruit his type of players. If he is to turn the program around quickly, he will have to have a fabulous five type recruiting class. Personally, I don't think that will happen and it will take him several classes to stabilize the program.

it will be interesting to see if fans and trent have the patience to get this program turned around. i'm sure he wasn't expecting to be playing in front of 2500 fans at this point of his career, since we fired brady because he wasn't putting people in the stands. pretty sure the powers that be at LSU didnt envision this debacle when they fired brady.

Doubtful he would be here, even under Brady. Committed as a sophomore, but later became a big name. I would've been shocked if Brady had been able to hold onto him. He had a lot of major offers that came late.

People are clueless. Brady won what 5 conference games the year after the Final Four? Big Baby, Taz, CJ, GT, Martin, Magnum, Lazare, Mason. That should have been more than a 5 win season. Brady got fired because a) players hated him b) for 10 years or however long he was here, he'd have one good season then several miserable ones. It was showing zero signs of improvement and the players weren't responding to him.

Some people don't understand, if you don't have talent, you can't win no matter how good you are. I can almost bet any kind of money that John Brady wouldn't have a win either. Brady won with really good teams, lost with bad teams, and lost with decent teams sometimes, too. If people can't see that Trent Johnson is a better coach than John Brady and that the players respond to him better. We have 2 walk-ons that are actually playing and Garrett Green who is probably the worst player on the team behind Kinsley and Beattie.

Debacle? nahh. This year is a sacrifice in order to build a solid program. We haven't had a program here in a while. We've had some very good, even great, teams interspersed among some average to pretty good ones. That's not a program. That's a reflection of recruiting year to year for a specific team instead of recruiting for the long-term health of the overall program.

One other factor not enough people are taking into consideration, is that with the NCAA rules the way they are now, you cannot afford to go out and sign a player who will be here for one or two years. You have to recruit players who will stick around and graduate, or you start to get penalized with scholarship reductions. It will take a long-term view and approach to stabilize the program.

As in SEC champs and SEC coach of the year and POY in Marcus Thornton?

This season sucks, but i'm not sure of the debacle you speak of.

One thing that the original poster failed to mention is that if Brady was still here we very likely would not have even won 20 games last year and most certainly would not have won the SEC and probably would have not even made the NCAA tournament. Trent will get us back to having solid teams year and year out and will do it the right way. I was very impressed on what he was able to do with the same players Brady had a losing record with the last year he was at LSU. We were definitely a top 10 to 15 team at the end of last year with not an over abundance of talent. Trent can coach, he proved that to me last year. With what we have this year John Wooden in his hay day couldn't sport a winning record. Give Trent a couple of more years and I think we will all be pleased with the LSU basketball program is.

Also Trent turned Marcus Thornton into a totally different player....made him work on defense which he never did before.
