What do we need to do in order to win the games we lost last season.

Yes, we have addressed that area.
No, there isn't any evidence that we are better in that area.

1. Run defense. Last season, we have up almost the same amount of rushing yards in those three games as we did all season. Yes, I think the run defense will be improved. Aranda is a DC that has proven that he knows how to stop the run game. Also, the 3-4 give us an additional 300-lb on the field to stop the inside run.

2. Third down/red zone defense. Under Steele, we gave up more red zone touchdowns than any of the Chief years. On third downs, we couldn't get off the field. Yes, the area will improve. See #1, Aranda. No more confusing in the secondary.

3. OL. Our OL couldn't win the LOS in those three games. Bama was able to run its base defense and still stop our run game. No, there isn't any evidence that the OL will be better. We have our best OG playing LT. So now we have a question at RG and LT. I do think that Weathersby will be an improvement at RT over Vadal who should have stayed at G which is his natural position. Imo, there are too many moving parts to know if the OL will be any better than last season.

4. QB. My heart tells me that Harris will be better, but my mind tells me no. No, we need more evidence. I believe that Cameron on the sideline will be huge. I believe a year as the starter will also help. But until Harris has shown more consistency and better decision making (hitting the check down WR) we will have to wait until the season is underway.

QBs?

Aranda will fix this, too

If we had Aranda last year we would have still been mauled by Bama and Arkansas. Maybe, just maybe, he would have been the difference in the Ole Miss game.

Quit blowing Aranda. I'm sure he's a good coach, and I'm sure our defense will be much improved this year. I'm also sure the difference will be mostly attributable to our nine returning starters plus a lot of returning backups, and maybe even some talented freshmen like Lawrence, Alexander and White.

Scoring more points than the opposing team would be a start.

One of our biggest issues last year was how much bigger Alabama, Ole Miss, and Arkansas OL was than our DL. Aranda's 3-4 will give us more size on the field.

I never said that we would have won against these teams last year with Aranda. I'm talking about what needs to happen this year for us to win. Stop trying to twist things.

Pretty simple, make the the opponent respect the pass.

Done.

Having a great passing game wouldn't have stopped Alabama and Arkansas from running it down our throats last year.

Our issues last year were more than just average QB play.

It wasn't only the games that we lost, a few of the games we won should have sounded deafening alarms. I was blinded by my purple and gold glasses but I should have known after the Syracuse and Eastern Michigan games that trouble was looming. There is no way those teams should have hung around like they did.

LSU beat Eastern Michigan by 3 TDs

The Syracuse game was a bit of a snoozer, but it was never really in jeopardy.

One thing that will also help is less penalties where we had massive plays called back.. That seemed to happen in the Syracuse game, we did put up 34 in that game.. but it should have easily been 40+

We had a fairly young offensive line and it caught up with us. The talent is there, 2 freshman starters were 1st and 2nd team All-Americans.. they should only be stronger and better with experience.

This is a strong football team, which should help.

Another thing I hated is how long it took to get the plays in and the confusion at the line.. but there was a MASSIVE difference in the Bowl game when Cam was on the sidelines.. that confusion was not there.

Win the battle at the LOS. That's where the game was loss last year. We could run or stop the run. We couldnt pass block or get pressure on the QB. Defensively, I think we will be better this season. I'm still not sure about our offense. We return 3 OL but Teuhuma will be playing in a new position. Pocic at C and Will Clapp at LG. There are three positions that will be unproven. Les has raved about RG Boutte but he struggled last year in his first game and was replaced by Teuhuma. I think RT Weathersby will be better than Vadal. Ultimately, our offense will be as good as our OL is.

LSU had to use Fournette well into the 3rd quarter in order to ensure victory against the worst rushing defense in the country at the time. The final score was not indicative of how the game was played on the field. That game was not pretty

After starting 7-0, I wasn't very sure how good we were. Our defense had been giving up a lot of big pass plays and wasn't as dominant as we should have been. But I had know idea that our running game would be held in check like it was versus Bama. Talent-wise they were just much, much better than our front 5.

It's really important for Les and Cameron to evolve our offense. We will always be a running team, but we have to spread teams out more and we have to throw on earlier downs.

our biggest problems last year was no depth on the DL as strong opponents wore our starters out in the second half and our secondary missed lots of assignments giving up big gains.

Aranda and Orgeron will improve both of these weaknesses.

Don't give the ball to LF when everyone expects it, get rid of a predictable offense.

Ole Miss lost more starters than they return, but they still have Swag and are still loaded at WR. Their defense should take a step back though, and I'm not convinced they'll have a running game Kelly notwithstanding.

If we can get a turnover or two, score when we're deep in their territory and execute our game plan we should be okay in that one.

Of all the games on our schedule this year, this one looks to have the most potential to turn into a shootout.
