the new rule requires the matter to make an effort to avoid being hit by the pitch.

do what? LSU has never taught to get intentionally hit/stay in the way of a pitch like other schools in the conference.

Depends on how each ump defines "effort". Too subjective to say it would help/hurt anyone more than anyone else.

It will be a good thing for the sport
I wouldn't say LSU leans in anymore than any other team. Some players might do it more than others but as a team it won't have much of an impact.
Some teams do it all the time. My guess is it will be enforced early and I can't imagine them enforcing it or calling it in the heat of a CWS game. Bottom line, turn your back on inside and if you get hit it won't matter

agree, though batter should be able to maintain his position. I can see not letting players lean into or roll shoulder into pitches. Hovering the elbow over the plate needs to go.

They lean in a lot less than some teams in our conference. Like Kentucky. This rule helps LSU if enforced, hurts teams like Kentucky.

Doesn't one of our new recruits hold a record for HBP in the state? NCAA hates LSU!

Lake Charles (La.) Barbe High senior Bryce Jordan set the national record for most times hit by a pitch in a season.

Exactly. Im looking at this as less of a new rule and just a re-wording. It is like when the NFL puts emphasis on a certain rule before the season. All depends on each umps subject view of the definition.

OUTSTANDING!

Would love to know what the ump was saying to Van Horn's sorry arse after the drama queen struck out.

And if you turn and get hit in the balls, you get a home run.....if you can make it around the bases.

I thought that was already the rule. I know at least that it used to be. It cost us a game against Arkansas once. Tied in the bottom of the 9th, bases loaded, our batter got HBP, which should have won the game for us, but the ump disallowed it, saying the batter didn't make an effort to avoid being hit. Arkie got out of the inning and went on to win in extra innings.

Well put. I just hope emphasis on this rule doesn't make the umps overly officious because they feel they have to be.

I'm just glad to have a chance to listen to Hawthorne interpret it.

I don't know if it will help or hurt LSU but I like the rule for baseball. We'll adjust. But it's another judgment call and yet another reason, sooner or later, to bitch at the blue.
