It doesn't matter as long as they win in them. They could wear all purple for all I care as long as they are winning.

Enough of these gimmick uniforms. Our traditional look is one of the best in cfb.

No need to cater to millennials with a short attention span.

For all the love Nick Saban still gets from LSU fans even while he's curb stomping our program yearly, people seem to forget that he brought the purples back into rotation. It was him that came up with the current "tradition" of wearing our gold/white/gold for the first home game of the year, but the purples for all OOC games that fall later/

Anyone remember why he did this? Show of hands?

That's right. Saban was being told on the recruiting trail...by recruits...that they disliked wearing one uniform all the time. This was long before Oregon's shite show of a uniform parade. they were simply telling the guy that they didn't want to wear gold/white/gold EVERY GAME of their careers.

So...he changed it.

bullshite. Here's what happened-has absolutely nothing to do with recruits telling Saban they wanted uni change. Neither was it his idea to where white jerseys 1st home game; notice rule change in 1982 well before Saban's time.
And if you have that proof; post it...otherwise stfu with your igorance.

In 1982, the NCAA changed its jersey rule,
requiring teams to wear dark colored jerseys for
home games. The Tigers wore purple jerseys for
all home games from 1983 to 1994. When Gerry
DiNardo became head coach in 1995, he vowed
to change the NCAA jersey rule. After petitioning
the rules committee of the American
Football Coaches Association, he personally met
with each member of the NCAA Football Rules
Committee. DiNardo’s efforts were successful
and the Tigers were allowed to wear white jerseys
again beginning in 1995.

Here's more:

LSU is one of the few college football teams that
traditionally wear white jerseys for home
games. The tradition originated when LSU won
its first national championship in 1958.
Head
coach Paul Dietzel had a habit of tinkering with
the uniform every year. In 1958, he chose to
wear white jerseys for LSU’s home games...

I don't see Saban's name anywhere about the history of the unis. Do you?

So he brought back the gold/purple/gold look, and we've kept that pattern until this day.

No. He did not.

It is not about the gimmick or the what the team wants to do. Its about the money. When they run out a new combo there are lots of folks out there who run out and buy more logo stuff... LSU makes royalties and Nike makes coin too. I will guarantee you that these non-traditional uniform games are in their uniform contract.

Ok. So you hate SABAN. I guess the NC he won in 2003 is fictional as well .

For whatever reason, the Tigers have never, to my knowledge, combined gold helmets with white pants. It's unfortunate. I think it would be striking, particularly with the purple jerseys.

I can't understand this infatuation for the all white uniform. It's boring as h*ll and has that stigma of a big loss vs. Ole Miss. That uniform and the purple pants should be banned for perpetuity.

Sorry, this is Old Miss week, and all the traditions of this game need to remain the same.Too many glorious wins wearing our traditional uniforms. Can still see Bert Jones getting off 2 plays in 8 seconds, the last with 4 seconds to go, a pass to Brad Davis to win the game wearing these uniforms. And the Johnny Rebs, en masse, throwing their dark blue helmets into & over the hedges surrounding the end zone. And of course, Bad Bo choking on the last play of that year's game.

Nope...because you responded to my point with a non sequitur. The fact that some internet idiot did nt update the LSU Wiki page to include this tidbit does not make it any less true. I never said anything about Saban petitioning the NCAA to allow LSU to wear the whites or anything remotely like what you just linked.

What I said was...and this is common fricking knowledge for anyone listening to the fricking man back in 2000...was that HE restarted the tradition of wearing the purples again at home OCCASIONALLY. He didn't do this because he gives one rat frick about fashion, but because he was being told be recruits that they did not like the idea of ONLY wearing one uniform their whole careers.

So...he pulled a uniform out of moth balls that we had shelved because we had been FORCED to wear them by the NCAA until DiNardo petitioned for the chage and came up with the ideo of wearing the purples for all OOC home games that were NOT the first game of the season.

Saban did this beginning 2000. Here's a photo of LSU losing to UAB in purples in 2000...which was not the first game of the year at home (that was Western Carolina) but was an OOC home game...

Hey look...even though DiNardo petitioned the NCAA to allow us to wear the whites at home, here's Saban's first team playing in those purples again only a few years later. He must really be a fashionista, right? if there's one thing we know about the guy, it's his love of fashion. I mean...who could forget his Sans-a-Belts he'd wear on the LSU sidelines!

So...in an effort to appease recruits who were telling him that they were not happy about wearing only one uniform their whole careers, he went back to the uniform we had been forced to wear at home by the NCAA for years and brought it back for use as the OOC home uniform for all games not the first each season. We essentially still use this pattern as we ONLY wear the traditional gold/white/gold for home openers, regardless of who we play.

Anything else?

I forgot about that one. That was LSU vs Arkansas in 2009. I loved that throwback uniform, a replica of a style used from 1946-1951.

This is not correct - he got off two plays in 4 seconds. The last snap was with 1 sec left on the clock.

No best combo is yellow, white, yellow.

I like the all whites and also the white, purple, white, but the best ever is our regular home whites.
