Let's face it -IMO he's clearly a top 3 head coach in the country.

there is one reason he doesn't get the recognition - the arch-enemy Saban. doesn't matter about their head to head - saban's got 3 NC's to his one. if it wasn't for saban, miles would be dominating the SEC like Spurrier did in the old Florida days and likely to have at least 1 more NC, if not 2.

Is Saban that much better? his record says he's better, but that much better? It's a given by the sportsworld that saban is a coaching god, and it's also as much a given that miles is a quirky guy who stumbled into a great thing.

Hey, no matter what he inherited, he has kept the program on a higher level than any other program in america except, dare I say it? Alabama.

thing is, miles doesn't even get the respect he deserves for being as good as he is.

doesn't really make any difference. He is a great coach. Yeah, he coulda put the naysayers down last year, but he got outcoached in the NC game.

He could do it this year, if this team can develop offensively.

whatever happens, we'll just have to be happy to keep winning with our loveable goofball!

I like Les Miles VERY much and I really like having his as our coach. However, notice Bama lost just as many folks as we did to graduation, draft, etc. Bama though, still plays fundamentally sound football every week. Maybe some growing pains here and there but solid and disciplined. Thats is ALL coaching!!!

no. he doesn't fit what people think is a great coach. He allows too much Les to show up, media types get scared at that kinda thing

and the fanbase well 50% of it is dumb, 45% of it is ignorant so what are ya gonna do

Les is a sincere and overall good person. He recruits very well, and has TONS of talent in state to play with. As long as Les is here talent will never be an issue, but Les will make mistakes,ie clock management, micro managing offense etc. So do you take the "good guy" of football or a douchebag who can coach his balls off?

This is a horrible post. You are saying LSU hasn't lived up to it this year? I think I would wait until they actually lost before I started making these ridiculous comments though.

To answer the OP's question. If LSU had won the NC last year, Les would have finally gotten the credit he deserved, and would be even held on the same level as Saban, if not higher...having had beaten him at their home last year en route to a championship. However, the loss in January set that respect level back a lot. I am a Miles fan, but the stubbornness that miles displayed in that game cannot be overlooked. IF, and that is a big IF, but if he can win the NC this year, he will definitely be right back up there in the mix.....but on the other hand, if he loses 2-3 games this year....he is firmly back to an also-ran....at least that will be the perception.

He has the misfortune of going up against one of the best coaches of all time in Little Nicky.

It is unlikely his numbers will be as good as Nick before they are both done.

Having said that, he still deserves great recognition for his coaching ability, but probably will not get it.

If bama wouldn't have begged there way into the NC game. We would have all slept better for the last year and maybe talking about a dynasty. Now bama is back on top and things are out of control.

Several points. Miles is doing a good job. He has LSU in the elite of college football. No doubt about it. But he sometimes says and does things so dumb that they call into question his fitness for any big time job (Ark 2007, Tenn 2010, Ole Miss 2009 and BCS chamship last year). This works against him. Second, it is miles bad luck to be coaching next to saban. As much as we all hate saban for very good reasons (ask the people of Miami) it must be admitted that he is a great college coach. He is up there with Bryant, Rockne, Yost etc. Cannot really be disputed. If he was not around LSU would be the dominant team right now.

great argument...except that, of course, you know that LSU has probably been the #1 program in the nation since Les Miles took over at LSU....at least overall during that span of time. It's funny how you guys seem to overlook that....just imagine if we had a guy who could actually coach here at LSU......why LSU would be light years ahead of ALL the other colleges in the nation..

And yet, LSU has lost what, maybe 2-3 more games than Bama over the last 5 years. You guys really just don't get it. You think bama is getting worse talent than LSU? They are pretty damn equal in terms of success. Nick with an extra national championship, and Les with an extra conference championship during their tenure at both schools.

Les will be the greatest coach in LSU history. some will still gripe because he isn't their type of guy. He will win AT LEAST one more NC and at least one more SEC championship. that combined with double digit wins the next 5 years will cement Les legacy.

He's not a great coach. I mean he lets his starting quarterback parade around with a mustache.. this will cost us come games this year. Plus sometimes when he talks he doesn't make sense and uses words that are weird.. and.. and Bama. Nick Saban. Football.
