I don't know if Cantrelle was so much a thug as just not quite right in the head

Did either of them get arrested for getting a Lewinski from 14 year old? There's your answer.

In the 60's there was little pretense of football players being scholar athletes. Cantrelle was a famously successful thug, by any standard.
Many who remember him, cookie man, Nickie Savoie, Andelsek and others didn't much like the fighting, but weren't in favor of suspensions, either. Likewise with Hill.
The difference is Hill carries PR luggage, being the latest of too many Tigers recently arrested, and legal baggage in the form of probation.
The latter issues may prompt Les to take action to create appearances of imposing "control".

I would venture to say seniors and freshman hooking up was actually more common back then

Different time and era.....way more media you didn't find out about incidents that happened untill way later on back then. and I also think with the violence going on in this day and time people are less tolerant to that type of behavior.IMO if it's a valuable player like hill, there should be minimal punishment enforced.

I heard stories of some of the stuff Andolsek used to do. There is no way I am gonna trash a guy who has passed on and do it on tigerdroppings. I have definitely heard the stories from people I trust.

The difference is Hill was arrested for it. If any of the other guys were arrested it would have been a different story.

Billy Cannon was a thug. We retired his number and honor him like a god.

Yeah, I've never heard any Andolsek stories before.

They may be thinking of Shawn Burks. THAT was a legendary badass from that era.

The difference is the internet, in the old days these things got taken care of without much ado, Cantrelle was a bad arse, these things were taken care of in house without any press. Today its a completely different deal, everyone is watching and videoing.

Twitter. And what's worse is that anyone can tweet anything and it's taken as fact.

Elko chased everyone from the Dorm with a Chain Saw?? Seems like I remember reading about the Campus Police having to get the Chain Saw!! Elko was huge like 6'6" and weighed 300 lbs.!

The Cantrell stories are legendary, but no way, no how Andolsek could be considered a thug. I met him a few times as a friend of my big brother's. He was nice, laid back and just a genuinely good person, and everything I've heard about him since supports that. Just super tough & completely dominating on the field.
