Defense is not rocket science. Too many excuses being thrown around. Pellini's D was nothing special but he knew what he was doing. Players respected him. Not sure our Co-Cos knowing what they are doing or have much respect.

What's more suprising to me is how often DD is now using other peoples quotes, ideas, etc., and passing them off as his own. It seems that everyday now, he will post something verbatim from the Rant or the Recruiting Boards.

reason our d isnt what it was in the past is because of

1. danny mccray
2. perry riley
3. kelvin sheppard
4. lack of blitzing
5. lack of enthusiastic play against florida.

Way off base.

lack of enthusiasm and intensity all year long

Personnel placement issues. Don't blame the kids.

Unwilling to change what isn't working

Lack of basic football skills. Just watch tackling, blocking and rushing the passer. Hell, catching a football seems to be an issue again.

Confusion. Stems from a lack of leadership. Kids are confused out there.

Quit. This team quit in the 4th quarter. Never have seen that from an LSU team.

Schemes. Play calling, where do you start. It's beyond atrocious.

Not a flamer -- but LSU team did NOT quit against FL, in fact I have had several people that are not LSU fans tell me - LSU got down, but they kept fighting... a break here and there and it would have been very close or LSU wins it.

This is true... and I know -- it happened, we lost, I accept that. But... if the tipped ball the first series goes to the ground, UF punts and we then go 3 and out and punt rather than 3 and out after they scored it's a different game. If Lee hits Bird or LaFell for the first down a few series later we don't go down by 17 and if those things happen we go in at half tied 7-7 in my opinion.

If we then score to start the second half we are up and not so far behind and down on momentum that we have to throw every down and force the pick 6, etc. LSU makes a real game of it IMO.

Don't know about the lack of respect thing. A person needs to be around the team to pick up that type of info. What I do know is that I agree somewhat with the thought that our D is designed for big-on-big physical play with pro-style sets, ect. As opposed to the spread sets. That whole offense is designed to create mismatches, get guys the ball in space and you MUST have a QB that can make reads at the line of scrimmage. Look at the really good defenses against the spread, they have LB's in the 210-220 range that run like safeties. LSU has LB's, as good as they are, that are 230-245 and run like LB's.

1. Too much reading and reacting

2. We're not dictating down and distance anymore

3. Remember after the '03 UGA game, and how we had blitzes for every state? I think we've only gotten to Colorado for the season.

4. Pre-snap confusion has shifted from opposing offenses to LSU's defense. Back in the day, I loved seeing our LB's and DB's showing blitz....trying to create confusion for the offensive line. Now I see our players shrugging our shoulders not knowing where they're supposed to be. There was a certain swagger/gangbuster mentality in our defense that I don't see now. (a good example of our swagger pre-snap on defense would be all the Safety blitzes against Alabama the last 3-4 years).

5. No identity for this defense.

6. Opposing QB's aren't afraid of getting hit by our defense. David Greene in '03. the QB's we knocked out last year.

Our defense doesn't even TRY to be aggressive. That's the first problem.

We allow the offense to dictate to us what they want to do, not the opposite.

That's the only thing I miss about Saban. His defenses dictated the pace of the game. When needed, his defense would win the game. This one doesn't.

No pressure from the D-line. What made past LSU defenses so great, was the ability to generate a pass rush with only 4 lineman rushing, it seems we really can't do that anymore.

LSU defense has been best known for being aggressive, when the playcalling isn't aggressive you aren't playing to the strength of the defense. Then again, I'm not a coach...

If the playcalling would be a tad more aggressive, our defense could easily bounce back.

Excellent Post. Sums it all up right there. It's almost like we got non agressive overnight. We were aggressive against Bama, but not against Ark. Aggressive against Oh St, but not against Kentucky. Seeing a trend here?

All the games where we sit back in zone and react to the play we get beat.

And so help me God- if we do that this week, I am going to going crazy, and this website might burn down the internet with all the riots going on here.

No you don't. See Ricky Jean-Francois running his mouth without fear of repercussion from his coaches. See the players taunting the other team while down four touchdowns. See the numerous player arrests we've had in recent years.

Am I the only one that thinks that his mouth, not his groin, got his arse left home Saturday?

I don't understand this D either. Ole Miss showed you the recipe to stop Fla. Well maybe not stop them, but enough to win the game in the end, which we had no shot at doing.
