our series with bama is characterized by the NC game no matter what the reality is. miles is the most successful coach against saban in the nation but outside of LSU people it is simply not acknowledged. the only way to erase that ghastly memory and turn the perception our way is to beat the bastards. last years collapse after completly dominating them just adds to saban's mystike (sp). it's incredibly frustrating but it is what it is. we just need to keep recruiting well and keep on plugging. i lived through the era of trying to beat bear bryant and believe me, that was worse, much worse. bama is ridin' the wave and we are about their only challenge. maybe a&m will also be there but i doubt it. jff's don't come along often.

Here's my running list that I keep handy to debunk the now-conventional-wisdom that LSU "got lucky" when they beat Bama AT Bama in the Armageddon Game:

4 FGs:
They were all really long (I believe 45 yards +, maybe one was over 50)

They were long because Bama couldn't move the ball for shite.

They were due to poor coaching by Saban - why not punt instead and pin LSU deep in a game where points were so precious?

Coaching:
Already mentioned Saban's bad decisions on FGs vs punts.

CLM - the so-called "Mad Hatter" - displayed incredible reserve and maturity at the very end of the 1st half. LSU had a very-short yardage 4th and goal with under 10 seconds. CLM wisely elected to kick the FG and go in tied at the half. This one data point should put to shame his "Mad Hatter" reputation. It also shows that LSU was moving the ball - unlike Bama who had either 1 or 0 plays inside the LSU 30. Ask any Bammer (or really anyone) if they remember this action at the goalline...most do not.

Overtime:
A lot of people forget that Michael Ford ran OOB on a play that would have been a TD - and thus a 12-6 margin of victory. This should highlight the fact that LSU was much closer to scoring multiple TD's than Bama ever was. For some reason, Reid's brilliant interception is now labeled as "lucky" (despite the fact that it was an absurd trick play that Saban ran), but Ford's slight nicking of the OOB line is totally forgotten.

Tell me where I'm wrong. It really sticks in my craw that it's now almost remembered as if Bama won the game.

Because we took a big nasty non game planning crap in the second game.

The first damn sentence of your quote acknowledges LSU beat Bama in 2011

Both the 2010 game and this game were three-point losses

They also mention that Saban is 4-3 coming off bye weeks but fail to mention that the same team gave him all three losses.

Because to a lot of sports reporters, Saban is what a coach is supposed to be, and Les Miles isn't. I think they don't like Coach Miles because he's different. It bugs the hell out of them. JUst remember how most of the experts picked Bama in that game. It drove them crazy when Miles outcoached Saban in that game.

Because the national champion is usually the division champion and conference champion. Any other team, same would have not been allowed.
