Why is everyone so concerned over who is paying the attorneys, etc?

People have a right to representation, whether or not they can afford it. The NCAA is not powerful enough to get in the middle of this, I don't care what LSU says. Murderers and child molesters get free attorneys all the time. Whether or not these players pay or don't pay their attorney is nobody's business. Especially since they are likely no longer LSU players.

LSU is on probation. If a lawyer connected to LSU hooks up a player, LSU would be in deep shite.

Because its fans of other teams hoping LSU get sanctions because they are scared shitless of LSU's damn strong football team.

negative. LSU has no control over this. A large percentage of local attorneys are LSU alums. Fisher has represented many LSU athletes. This is a made up controversy.

I do understand that. I also understand that it is not uncommon for attorneys to take on cases, especially high profile cases, on a pro bono basis, negating the need for a state appointed attorney. I have a friend doing this exact thing right now.

It isnt common practice for a lawyer to bail you out and charge you it in the fee you owe him? If you already have a lawyer?

never been arrested

agreed. i thought i was the only in here that thought that. this goes way beyond lsu football now. i would like to think that this will all be plead down, but if the DA wants to make an example, a felony charge is no joke. a violent crime felony will effect the rest of their lives, especially with jobs. i really do hope the best for each of them.

They are still LSU players. Also, we all have a right to crappy public defenders not expensive high power defense attorneys. Those are only for the wealthy people because they are better than us and should never have to go be punished for anything they do ever.

False.. if an attorney does work pro-bono for LSU players, it is receiving extra benefits and I'm pretty sure that would cause problems.

High powered attorneys frequently take pro bono criminal cases, especially if they are high profile.

As I said, the NCAA gets enough bad publicity and has all kinds of people, media, politicians, etc., calling for payers to be paid. If they even considered telling a student-athlete (especially a black one) what attorney he could or could not have or even being involved in that discussion, they would be blasted so bad and have Jesse and Al on their arse in a heartbeat.

This is a non-starter of an argument. It will go nowhere.

Well, it's happening right now and has happened at LSU for 30 years at least that I am aware of. Show me a case in the history of the NCAA where this was an issue.

bubba,

LSU is on NCAA probation right now, with shep in possible trouble with some housing issues.

the last thing they'd want to do is get caught up with some improper benefits bullshite from a lawyer providing free services.

I believe it was allowed before last year. NCAA put in a rule to prevent it. Thats what LSU said when they ruled that they would have to pay for his services. I just think since they are paying for his service then providing bail is part of it.
