Why does LSU need to hire a new coach this year?

If LSU cannot hire the #1 choice this year, why settle for #2? Leave CEO as the interim coach until a new #1 emerges, even if it is 3 or 4 years from now. What's the worst that could happen? CEO wins 8 or 9 games a year then gets fired.

do you know how much damage a bad hire can do in 3 years?

it is not a given that O would just win 8 or 9 games a year at LSU

I'm not real sure how well that would play out with him just sitting and waiting on his replacement. The guy got shite on by USC, so i'm surprised he's even putting himself in that situation now.

If he wins out, bring in an elite O coordinator and give O the job. He will have earned it.

How damaging is settling for the second or third best candidate (outside of keeping O)?

What's the hurry? LSU hasn't been competitive the last 4 years and no 'damage' has been done.

Keep CEO until the right candidate emerges.

We don't know. We don't know if O would be damaging. The question is if O is better than the 2nd or 3rd choice?

Because whether or not tRant will admit, Miles still kept LSU at an above average level. LSU can and could fall lower...a lot lower.

What if the 2nd choice is the right candidate?

He won't just let himself be interim coach on a year to year basis until LSU finds someone they like better.

By January, he's going to tell them to either shite or get off the pot.

No shite. It would be devastating to recruiting and hiring a staff. This idea is ridiculous. I'm not against hiring O if he winds up being the best available option, but having him remain interim indefinitely is retarded and will never happen.

You need stability. You're not going to land top recruits if you're coaching situation isn't long-term

No. That will destroy recruiting uncertainty is a very bad thing.

We put far too much credit (and fault) on the HC. The real work gets done by the coordinators and positions coaches. Miles was a micromanager who did not trust his coaches to do their jobs. That showed.

This is a terrible horrible terrible idea. CFB teams are built through recruiting, and if this happened, we would be battling Southeastern and Nichols for recruits instead of Bama and A&M.

If Ed O stays for three years, in no way would he be considered the "interim head coach."

Bama got set back over a decade with a bad hire until the right one came along. Auburn is close to hiring their third coach since Tubby left.

not sure how recruiting would be negatively impacted. players are constantly told not to pick a school based on the current coaching staff.
