Why Daniels starts.

The problem is Kelly and staff, like so many other coaches, cream themselves when they see a guy who can run and pass. Suddenly they have fantasies of all the plays they can run with the "mobile quarterback." They can draw up this play or that play since he can "run" and have visions of sugar plums and touchdowns in their heads.
The problem is too often, qbs such as Daniels, aren't learning how to read defenses or develop a passing game that is a true threat. Obviously there are exceptions. I love watching Mahomes for example. But Randall Cunningham wasn't MVP until after he blew out his knee and had to learn how to be a real passing qb. It can be argued Mauck did not become a real passer until he damaged his AT.
We had a good passer in Brennan who acquitted himself well on the field of play. We had a great prospect in Walker Howard. We ran them off for a guy who makes flashy plays at times but too often hesitates or can make downfield passes.
Daniels has talent but there is an intangible "it" that is missing when he plays. It reminds me of JJ and Lee. During Lee's Sr year, you could see the offense developing throughout the season. Landry and Beckham developed chemistry with Lee and looked real good. Then JJ started playing and all that stopped. Looked somewhat like it does today.
All because a running qb fits the coaches playbook fantasies.

In the college game, a QB who is a threat to run and move the pocket is a great weapon.

Do you mean Rueben Randle? Jarvis Landry had 4 receptions total that year.

Im not sure if Kelly is the SEC caliber coach we need him to be. One who is okay with benching players for underperforming.

That’s not why Brennan quit. He couldn’t play football anymore because of his injuries.

I believe Jayden gives LSU the best chance to win. He doesn't turn it over, his running abilities are exceptional, but he is an average at best passer. He will NOT throw the ball unless the WR is wide open or it's a short pass. He does not see receivers down the field. He cannot read a defense or even a defensive end on a zone read run. It seems like most of his decisions are predetermined. Needless to say, he is the exact same QB he was last season and that is very frustrating and concerning.

I do wish Daniels would have improved in his reads, but unfortunately he hasn't. That said, it's more frustrating that the coaching staff hasn't adapted their play calls to his skill set. There shouldn't be long developing routes. Don't put seven blockers up front and limit his running lanes. Let him play flag football.

During our best 3 game stretch last season Daniels average 18 rushes per game, most of them designed runs. The backs averaged 22 rushes per game and the run pass ratio was +50% run. That’s the formula, what we did Sunday was over 60% pass with the backs getting a total of 12 attempts. The staff should know how to call games for this QB and this offense by now.

Moving on, I suppose the problem starts as early as HS maybe earlier where a coach has a guy like JD that can just run all over the place so they just ride with that instead of coaching them up on their passing game as well, years of that and makes it hard to break out of it.
Problem is, when you try to make the switch it’s really hard to not hamper the running/scrambling game to some degree. So until you get there, there’s an uncomfortable middle ground of 1) not great passing and 2) hesitating to run even when it’s a good outcome - I truly hope JD is over that hump and gets both things rolling.

This is where I disagree with you for all the reasons you listed below that statement…
Last year I agreed and it was probably accurate then. I expected JD to make a step progression after a full offseason to work on his known weaknesses but it did not show last weekend.

He starts because the other option is not significantly better and does not give us any greater chance of winning more games. It really is that simple. To believe otherwise is to believe that you (who has zero coaching experience at any elite level) knows more about this team and football in general than the professionals (with decades of experience at the elite level and who spends the most time with this team) know. To believe that is absurd and shows just how ignorant you are.

I don't get you, man. how can you believe daniels is ou best chance? granted, we don't know for sure unless we get to see the Nuss. and based on your post, the logical conclusion is that we need to see nuss.

Regardless of who we play, WRs need to learn how to catch a pass. Nuss can throw bombs and these bums will drop the pass.

but you do kinda have to look further than 1 football game.
