Coach O went 6-2 there as interim, brought life to program. But wasn't hired because USC had a competent AD.

Coach O goes 6-2 as interim here, brought life to program. But our AD is so incompetent, that he feels the need to give him a chance instead of hiring an up and comer/proven coach. Now our program is in a very fast downward spiral because of it.

Thanks Joe Alleva.

Are you saying Clay Helton was a homerun hire?

I’d give my left nut to have Clay Helton over O right now.

Helton was an interim coach too. And don't forget that he was doing terribly until Darnold started playing. And they've been pretty underwhelming to start the year.

looks like he's saying they knew not to take a chance on O because they had a competent AD

Sark was a much better hire at the time than keeping O

Helton thus far has been a decent hire while he may not be a homerun

ETA: but how often does a true "homerun hire" happen without hindsight? Meyer, Saban, who else AT THE TIME OF THE HIRE has been considered a TRUE homerun hire?

I'm not 100% positive but wasn't Sarkisian the hire from the "competent" AD?

It's not popular on the board right now but Helton is an example for having patience. He was an interim, given the gig. He started last by being blown out 52-6 and was 1-3 at the end of September. USC fans thought he was in over his head and wasting all of the talent on the roster.

Again, I know that right now no one wants to hear anything other than fire everybody but something to think about.

Pat Hayden saw what Orgeron really was, a defensive line coach, a rah-rah cheerleader who had destroyed Ole Miss football.

It's been published numerous times that we a have a simpleton for an AD...we was duped.

I'm saying that atleast USC had a coaching search and didn't settle.

Wasn't that competent AD fired?

This might be the worst argument ever made. USC is a terrible example for your point.

Don't just bring up stuff to fit your narrative. As bad as O sand JA ,USC is not what we are doing to emulate. That's a dumpster program that has seen it's best years pass by.

They didn't hire Clay Helton over O. They hired Sarkisian. They just didn't know that he was a falling down drunk.

Now would a little more due diligence have revealed that? Maybe so. Maybe they knew and figured it was manageable.

But one thing is clear: whether they knew Sark was a lush or not, they felt better taking a chance on him than they did on an interim who went 6-2. Think about that and ask yourself why.

sark and helton were both Haden hires, and Haden was fricking garbage.

I believe Garrett (in one of his last moves as usc AD) hired kiffen. Since Garrett also hired Carroll, i'd consider him somewhat competent.
