Because we lost. If we win the next few, it will be 10-2 again.

This message was so good...all the way until the END when the wheels fell off.

quote:

I predict dark years ahead as we replace one bad hire with another. We are overdue for an affirmative action hire in football. Those rarely work. It's hard enough to hire a good HC if you have all coaches as candidates. If you limit it by race, or LSU affiliation, it's nearly impossible. Look for two more miserable years with O, three with Frank Wilson, then maybe a decent coach.

Why in hell did you throw in "affirmative action" hire? It had absolutely nothing to do with your post and was actually antithetical to the entire post, which was about history repeating itself. So if LSU were to hire Frank Wilson, it would be strictly because he was black? Your post pointed to LSU making dumb hires through the years, but you point to a hypothetical future hiring and attribute that one particular hiring to affirmative action. See how you've dumbed down your entire post, which was actually quite informative. Frank Wilson could not just be another in the line of dumb hirings(were he to fail, which is debatable)...he specifically has to be designated as an affirmative action dumb hire?

affirmative action
Think outside the box a minute. Maybe this as hire could also describe hiring a HC from down de bayou because he wants the job, it's easier and cheaper (?) than mounting a legit national search, and because he talks like some of us.

Once again a great leader emerged to take control from the Friends. AD Mark Emmert conducted a diligent search and personally made the call for Saban. He left enough professionalism in place to result in a very good hire for Saban's replacement, but after about eight years Les Miles wore out.

Actually Mark Emmert was Chancellor and definately responsible for Saban hiring. Note that Joe Dean was still AD so he had a hand in hiring Saban too.

Dean did what Emmert told him to do, Joe had no say. Emmert wanted to conduct a national search for the new AD as well, but the good ole boys wanted Skip, so we got Skip, and Emmert left, that's when the decline became inevitable.

You're probably right. But I bet I am, too. The next coach will come from a confined coaching search. I don't care why it's confined. In the past it's often been confined by looking only among LSU alums. I think the next search will be confined to Afican Americans. I think it would be cool to have a great AA coach - if it came from an unbiased nation wide search. Get that guy from Navy or the one at Penn State. I'd be onboard. But I don't think that's going to happen until the Friends of LSU are displaced.

You and geauxdoc are right, of course, Emmert was Chancellor. I give Joe Dean no credit for hiring Saban. Emmert had to order Dean to get it done. The Saban hire went completely against the grain of Dean's philosophy, which was to hire a low priced regional coach.

Don't forget Dean selected three head coaches Hallman, Dinardo, and some doofus at TCU (I think) who could not reach final agreement n his buyout, and so never actually signed with LSU. I think he was fired by TCU a year later. So Dean's choices were Curly, Dinardo, and a TCU reject. Dean was awful!

I like how you detailed out the struggle between "the friends" and "the smart guys."

It highlights an issue many of us have known for years. We have backwoods southern politicking dumbasses making high level decisions ultimately centering around money instead of the best interest of the program.

Hell, we kept lowering the bar all last season to accommodate him. First, he has to win out; then it was he just has to beat Bama; then it was win out from Bama, etc...
I really thought we had jumped over the snake after losing to UF. But no... he talks like us.

Didn't they pay Steve Spurrier to be a consultant in the coaching searches prior to Saban? I remember reading that somewhere at the time. I always thought Spurrier must have gotten a good laugh out of that.

It's not a hard question at all. We used to compete for national championships and compete against Bama for the best in the conference, but if you lose to mother fricking Mississippi State by 30 points. 30 goddamn points, then sure the standards are lowered. When the conference isn't even good this year and you show up like that, it's beyond embarrassing and totally unacceptable. If we played like we did Saturday for the rest of the season, we probably won't even win another game.

You, me and every other tiger fan brother... I am sick of this shite show. However, I have fully prepared for more of the same. It's frustrating.
