re: Why are people blaming Mett?

What game did DD's son watch? If it were not for Mett we would have lost! The fumble at the goal line was the fault of the back up center Porter not Mett. The second fumble was a caused by a sack.
While I think he and Porter share the fumble at the goalline, I think it was a servicable (by no means was it a quality snap) snap that Mett took his eyes off for an instant and did not secure before stepping back.
Who has responsibility for ball security during a sack? The QB (although it was more of a great play by the defender than poor play of the QB).
quote:
I thought metts play was very good considering he was running for his life and got hit every play!
He made some great throws in the pocket under pressure - he took some shots and showed pretty good instincts. There were a couple of times he threw the ball when he could have run for a few yards - I can live with that - he's a pocket passer. He did not force as many passes and threw the ball away fairly well, too.
Overall I give him a B minus, even with the hiccups. The OL and WR get worse grades for Auburn and the RBs get better, but I cannot give anybody an A on the offense except Ware.
So - as usual the LSU QB gets too much blame for an ugly win (in other places, the QB gets too much blame for a loss, but this is LSU - and our fans would rather lose pretty than win ugly - that's just who we are.)
IF the protection improves, the WRs "catch" passes thrown their way and the offensive team, overall (Mett included) minimize the mental lapses displayed during the Auburn game - there is nobody on our schedule who will beat us. The defense is still smothering.

From Notiger1997
Hey, idiot, grow up. You sound miserable because LSU did not win by 40 points. What would cause you to say on a public forum that the QB "thought it would be fun to stumble and fall down"? Do you actually believe that these coaches and players want to fail or not play well? Do you believe that they play poorly just to piss you off?
quote:
The fumble was on him. He also screwed up on not getting a first down while running because he thought it would be fun to stumble an fall down instead of dive for the first. He takes too long to read a defense and decide what to do after the snap. Stares down the primary receiver.

Add all of this and the fact that our O-line is very much overrated and we are just not as good as we think.
Concern going forward is other Ds will stack the box and dare him to beat them with the pass.

I don't know what game you saw Mett threw to 5 different receivers! Went through his progressions. He threw pinpoint passes with defenders in his face when he knew he was going to take a hit.?from what I saw he's the best QB I've seen at LSU for a long time.

Pass execution has been poor. This is where Lee acceled last year. Quick releases. Besides a pass or two to Clement have we just given up using our TE's? Don't we have several good ones? If not TRY to throw to Dillon!

Our TEs are just not very good... I can see why we gave up on them. JMO

One fumble inexcusable...Two abject failures running for a first down...pitiful. Otherwise not so bad.

Peyton Manning runs better than Mett. And if he keeps playing like he doesn't know if he wants to lower his shoulder or slide, he won't even be playing against Bama because one of these guys from Florida or South Carolina is going to hurt him. bad.

Mett is so much better then Lee it's not even close. Lee was afraid to take a hit. If Mett had Ruben Randle his stats would be great and the game would not have been close!
If Odell Beckham would catch balls right in his hands Mett would have had 300 yards. Odell dropped a 40 yard pass in his hands.

He can't fumble the ball and has to move around or take the sack. Also need to run tough. Guy is 6 5.

I agree Mett plays like a man! Stood in and took hit after hit!!!

i blame mett for both fumbles. he had both hands on the snap; he wasn't ready for it and that might have been porters fault but mett just doesn't have great hands. the sack fumble was a result of not protecting the football when it was obvious he was gonna get hit.

Mett is not without any blame imo, but he played fairly well from what I saw. A few errant throws, but no INTs, and the WRs had some drops, and the AU defense played well and batted a ball down and broke some passes up. They just did not allow the running nor passing game to get any kind of rhythm or get anything going.

They are blaming Mett because they can't blame the coaching staff. A deit cannot take blame
