Who's idiotic decision was it to tear down Rosenblatt and build a much blander stadium?

I'm one of the unfortunate college baseball fans who never got to see Rosenblatt in all her glory for the college world series. With LSU returning for the first time in 6 years, I have been wondering, what idiots made the decision to get rid of that stadium?

Was it a complete dump that was not savable? Most college football stadiums are ancient and are merely updated rather than wholesale new stadiums being built. The new stadium seems so bland (much like most new stadiums are compared to their 20th century counterparts). Was the NCAA about to pull out? Omaha tired of keeping up the old one? Just curious what the thought process was.

The zoo? Really? Did they just want more parking or something?

Rosenblatt Stadium was home to a minor league baseball team. Major league franchises hold their minor league teams to certain standards. Stadiums with their dressing rooms, etc. are part of those standards.

That’s what happened to Little Rock’s stadium for its farm team. It was old and outdated. It’s major league franchise….St. Louis at the time….said build a new stadium or we are pulling out. So a new stadium was built.

they should have built it with the same orientation...that's why it sucks. I think LF is the sunfield now when it was always RF.

Are you one of those people who pissed & moaned when they demolished the old Alex Box?

Some people can't get "Rosenblatt" out of their minds. Like Doug Thompson on the radio postgame show a couple nights ago.

Probably the same people who were accused of sucking all the life and energy from Alex Box by building a vanilla stadium.

Didn’t the minor league team move to a totally separate stadium after this?

Eta: just looked it up. They don’t even play at Schwab/TD. They play at Werner park.

A minor league club playing in a 20k+ stadium will feel like a morgue.

It’s amazing how much sentimentality people put on a stadium because of certain games that were played there.

All the other teams made them build a bigger stadium because LSU kept hitting the ball out

I view Rosenblatt the same way I view the Old Box.

Have very fond core memories at both places, but both were well outdated and desperately needed a replacement.

In terms of TD Ameritrade Park at Charles Schwab Field, the stadium is very nice and is situated in a perfect spot with bars and restaurants that makes for an incredibly fun atmosphere around the stadium, something that was lacking at Rosenblatt.

Yes the Omaha minor league team part of Royals franchise moved to the new stadium

Similar to minor league team that left Hoover for new stadium in Birmingham

Rosenblatt was a dump and had outlived it's useful life, but it did sit atop that hill and the wind made it a homer haven

Similar to the new orleans stadium that grew old and dilapidated compared to other minor league teams

Fun fact, the Omaha Storm Chasers, formerly the Omaha Royals, never played in the current park for the CWS. They opened their own new park, the same year, in nearby Papillion, Nebraska.

So no, Roseblatt not being up to AAA "code" is not why the CWS moved away from Rosenblatt. The current park is used for Creighton baseball home games and the College World Series. That's it.
