Peyton was never coming to LSU.

Bear Bryant literally pulled him out of Broussard Hall and took him to College Station.

yeah that was the PR spin from the Peyton camp, but in reality, Peyton was likely never coming here anyway.

Can't blame LA players like Dunn and Reed going to FL schools because at the time they were the Top 5 and perennial title contenders.

I doubt he was ever going to go to LSU but Josh Booty was the higher thought of recruit and was committed to LSU.

Dunn's mother was murdered just off campus. I'd want to head out of town too.

Miami took a bunch of good players out of the state back in the day, notably Ed Reed & Reggie Wayne.

I think Faulk and Kordell Stewart were a year apart coming out of New Orleans. They would've been pretty fun to watch at LSU.

We had Chase and Terrace Marshall, who were rated higher, in that same class, and Justin Jefferson already on the roster. Could we consider that a miss?

ETA: incorrect statement.

Two of the top guys in Louisiana in back to back years chose A&M over LSU. Hector in 79 and Billy Cannon Jr in 1980. Word on the street back then was Hector drove a brand new Trans Am to college station. Of course you never know which rumors are true and which are not.

Hector was the best back I ever saw in high school.
