What do you think a setup guy does?

I may have pulled Nola one batter earlier but I don't know if it would have mattered with the way Broussard was pitching. Of course Nola probably would have finished if the ump didn't decide to start squeezing him.

Then again...
Plugging in Foster in LF is a no brainer after pinch hitting Chinea for Fraley (which didn't work). The only other guys he could have gone with in the outfield are Sciambra or McMullen, and Foster is easily the best defensively. And pulling a true freshman who had struck out 3 times in a row makes sense.

Good call by Mainieri but it was also a pretty easy one to make.

actually what we have are set up guys...none of them can be considered a set up guy. one would expect a set up pitcher to be able to eat up a couple of innings if need be until you can bring in your closer, or a a pitcher to close out the last inning. but that can't happen with any of our relief pitching. well unless Aaron goes 7 innings. it's a shared roll on this staff because none of them can stay out there for more then 2 or 3 outs. they either lose control of the strike zone, never have control, or get hammered after that, then the next guy bails them out, and if he is left in for another inning he gets into trouble, and on and on it goes. A lot of it is because most of the guys we rely on are young. In past years they'd be lucky to pitch any, but it's what we have, and hopefully the experience will help them in the future. The upper classmen with experience on this staff are the ones who should be carrying that load, but aren't. They've all pitched well in big games, and in many games, but seeing them out there this season you'd never know it.

So they are both setup guys, but neither is a setup guy. Makes sense.

That ump created the whole mess. If he would have just called balls and strikes with any kind of consistency, the game would have ended 4-0 with none of this discussion.

Could not agree with you more VIP. Throw micro shots of stats out the window with 5 outs left in a game that you have dominated and come within one amazing defensive play of the biggest blown game since LSU/Ole Piss football in Oxfart. PM knew if fricked up as it was all over his face during the 10th.

1) coaches are human. They will make mistakes.
2) P.M. Will be a hall of fame coach. He makes les mistakes than most of his peers.
3) rantards complain about every lsu coach.
4)rantards = dumbass
5) have a great day!

Duly noted stat boy. Point/counter point, PM came within a nano second of losing the game with bad pitching decisions. Game two enjoy.....

Easy to call them bad pitching decisions after the fact.

Another reason I love the Rant.
lsufan251875 knows so little about baseball that he believes that the best two pitchers made a conscious decision to not throw strikes.

I can almost hear the locker room conversation before the game:
Player 1: "Dude are you going to pound the zone tonight?"
Player 2: "Naw man. I'm bored with throwing strikes and getting people out."
Player 1: "Cool move. I think I'll do that too."
They smile, fist bump and leave the room.

The Rant sure is the place to go to get the real inside scoop from people that know so much.

I thought he left Nola in too long. It was obvious he was losing control. I get trying to get him the cg but make the call when you know he can't do it.

This.

Pitches that were strikes all night were no longer strikes in the ninth.

I don't think I made any reference to the degree of difficulty of the coaching call. Only that it was a game saving call at that point of time.

If we are going to call out our coaching staffs for what we feel to be game mistakes/blunders, shouldn't we also speak to the moves which help us reach successful results?

We can rehash the 9th as much as we want, but I didn't see any coaching decisions worthy of much 2nd guessing going on. But then, that's just me.
