So does laird plus hes fast and can bunt.

Hence the reason why him and his .441 OBP would be beautiful in the leadoff spot.

Still not sure what role this plays in a guy hitting in the 2 hole.

we have speed at the top of the lineup and power and high averages through the middle of it. the lineup 2-6 should not be touched.

No, I'm not joking. Why are you requiring the 2 hole hitter to be fast? He just needs to handle the bat well and move runners along. The most important thing from the 2 hole is handling the bat. Not seeing where speed is a necessity.

Sorry, but Raph Rhymes does not have power.

Look, I think our offense is great. I don't like Jacoby in the leadoff spot and that's about the only thing I would complain about. But, we are just discussing alternatives here.

Tony Gwynn, one of the greatest hitters ever batted 2nd much of his career...even when he got fat and slow...

But the guy could handle the bat like no other.

Mainieri really wants jacoby in that 7 hole. Scaimbra needs to step up.

That is the primary role of the 2 hole. I'm not saying Laird isn't doing a good job there, I am saying Rhymes can do just as good of a job. The reason I think Rhymes would be good there is because Laird would be good in the leadoff spot. He won't answer the why part, just keeps saying 2 hole needs to be fast.

I don't think any of these changes will happen, nor do I think they need to happen, just discussing.

Out of the regular starters, Jacoby would probably be the worst of second worst option in the 2 hole.

Damn, your statement seemed to imply you thought everyone had power and high averages because most of them do. I misunderstood you. Jesus, you are really acting like a delicate little girl this morning.

So 1 out of 2 is OK for your argument but not ours?

I mean taking your requirements...you want a guy who can handle the bat AND have speed in the 2 hole.

Hey...that's 1 out of 2...so whats your problem?

Does it matter? Jacoby hit leadoff friday and saturday and went 0 for the series and we still scored 22 runs. We are the best hitting team in the SEC right now, no need to change anything. Whoever starts as our 3rd outfielder, whether it be sciambra or stevenson, will do just fine hitting first.
