I'm not going to include key because he'll have played more lb than de before he's done at LSU and he belongs with Ron Sancho Eric Hill Rydell Malancon and Michael Brooks as OLBs. He's also had more sacks as an OLB.
1 Gabe Northern
2 Leonard Marshall
3 Marcus Spears
4 Sam Montgomery
5 Tyson Jackson

Agree if you're gonna include OLBs the just make a top 5 pass rushers thread.

Yes he had more sacks but that's what he was a pass rushing specialist. Jackson was more impactful and a better player as evidenced by him being drafted 3rd overall.

He was drafted 3rd overall simply because he could play de in a 3-4.

Melvin oliver led the dline in tackles his senior year with 67 tackles.

Gave northern blew up plays like glen dorsey.
I'd say northern, key, mingo, hill, and tyson jackson.
I cant remember some of the older guys, Im 33 so my lsu watching doesnt go past that obviously.
Edit: I gotta replace mingo with spears. Mingo is 6th

You do realize oliver has more career sacks right? Oliver had 26 tfl also and had 67 tackles his senior year.
You clearly dont know shite about oliver.
Also, my 10 year old son knows more football than you. You dont even know where the 7 technique lines up without looking.

He could do both really. The reason I say him over Oliver is look at their usage Oliver was pretty much a situational pass rusher most of his career he was great at it but he didn't start a lot or play a ton of snaps. Jackson was the second best player on a national championship dline and so versatile. He's played 3-4 end 4-3 end and 4-3 defensive tackle in his career. And you don't get taken 3rd overall if you're pigeon holed into one spot.

But I'll say that Oliver is one of the most underrated players LSU has ever had. His sack totals are unreal for a player who saw so few snaps. I'd say our best pass rusher between Northern and Key.

Come on. Jacskon wasnt our 2nd best player. You know the nfl draftd him off potential and his ability to actually play de in a 3-4 or 4-3.
I agree he was able to move around alot more than oliver. He also had more nfl talent than oliver.

And montgomery is he tied for 5th or 6th alltime sacks and he only played 3 years while all the other players had 4 years.
But yeah i think i just have a bias for oliver because he never gets mentioned in these discussions.yall are right. TJ probably was better.

Out of the starters in 07 we had Dorsey Jackson Pittman and Alexander/favorite. Jackson was our second best dlineman.

Was Carl Dunbar a DE? His name came to mind immediately.

I hear ya he's amazingly underrated for his production.

Oh yeah without a doubt. I thought you meant 2nd best on the team. No TJ was a beast at lsu and is probably our most versatile dline.

He played both. Dunbar was an end mostly though.
